"this code has a several hundred case switch statement, disgusting" said the people who have no idea what the industry standard for coding programming language interpreters is

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko I mean what is the industry standard then? I've always assumed there is no standard but many people choose Lua because of its small size and ease of embedding

if snuck is a valid past tense of sneak,

then suck should be a valid past tense of seek

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko imo you're changing it too drastically, and would probably want sook, which people might actually understand as a past tense of seek

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko or suk even, just can't add in the c

I love how every so often reporting comes out going "scientists have discovered the cause of long covid!" and it's always an entirely different cause. So given there seem to be a couple dozen ways covid can cause long covid, maybe it would be nice to also try to prevent the initial infection rather than putting all our chips on finding reliable cures for dozens of separate-but-overlapping syndromes? Just a crazy thought I had

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko you have to do both. We need cures for long covid because people have long covid. You can't undo covid, but you shouldn't give up on people because they caught it. Catching covid is not a moral failing. So yes obviously it would be good to have public policy to help reduce infections. However, scientists should keep working on understanding and helping those with long covid

gaycodegal,

@eniko the way it was worded did suggest that yes

jeez bamboo is OP. mojang plz nerf

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko I tried speedrunning to bamboo production from an empty world because of how OP it is, and as it turns out, it's actually a fairly end game item if you want to gather sufficient quantities to do useful things with it. You need flying machines and a collection system both of which are expensive

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko ah that farm design does not scale to the levels of bamboo needed for truly op things at least to me. That level of bamboo is equivalent to going to the nether and making a shulker of lava buckets

Hello! I have just been laid off as part of Google's second annual mass lay off. If your team is looking for an experienced developer do let me know. I work remote, and am an expert in accessibility, web development, and Android (Java/kotlin). I do iOS (swift/objc) as well, and do have backend experience. In general looking for low stress teams; already had my share of unreasonable work at Google.

so since my zombie reinforcement based iron farm didn't work i am considering a new approach

(it's basically a zombie piglin farm except for regular zombies and with a flush mechanism to get rid of non zombie mobs)

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko wait this is your iron farm? You aren't farming iron golems?

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko like iron golem based iron farms are ridiculously easy

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko if you're not going to get iron that way, I'd recommend just mining it. There are certain y levels iron is most commonly found at, fortune now works on iron, and it comes with massive ore veins. Hitting a zombie is a very meager source of iron

Once again, hats off to C people because programming solely inside of a Macro is a fucking awful experience. I have no idea how you all keep doing this and making software that doesn't continually and perpetually snap in half.

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@thephd is this ever going to get better? Binding scripting languages to c is always worse than it needs to be because no one wants to parse c and macros are insufficient

eniko, to random
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

today in minecraft i get to go do some actual mining since i'm fresh outta diamonds and even lapis, and i'm so happy because at least it's not the fucking nether

in other news, twice now i've had to extract a villager who managed to make their way through my nether transport tunnels and decided to make a new life for themselves in my base >:|

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko check the biome in the f3 menu. Biomes are height dependant. If your in the wrong biome, simply teleport your farm to the correct chunk

absolutely baffled that after putting up with steam's utter bullshit for a decade, the way youtube's algorithm works feels downright meritocratic

like, i know what the metrics for a successful video are and i can work towards refining them in my videos, and YT doesn't expect me to have built a preexisting fanbase before launch (whereas that's literally the only way to succeed on steam) and in fact from what i can tell YT doesn't seem to care much at all about what views i bring from outside the platform

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko you don't seem to enjoy making games in their entirety, you seem to enjoy working on side projects that you find interesting. If you find making videos does not rob the joy from the act of doing something you find interesting, I would do the pivot after kitsune launches. I am originally a gamedev and have produced games but I work elsewhere because I want money to support myself. Even if I made games it would still be work, so I get about the same stress just with more money/downtime

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko sure I hardly produce content outside of work. I do occasionally do some side work, either on games or on technology to improve my life, but it's ok. I can still have a life I like

Looking back on selfies from 2.5 years ago and missing the short haired lesbian haircut vibes.

I often tell myself that I like long hair, but I'm not sure if that's entirely correct.

I basically have this feeling every time I see any shorter-haired person who isn't a man.

gaycodegal,

In a Kardashev type II civilization, the standard alarm clock snooze time has increased from 9 to 12 minutes

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@recursive honestly if I was type 2 civ, I'd hope citizens wouldn't need sleep and could sleep if they want, but there's no pressure to wake up on so little sleep you would want a snooze button

I had kind of a weird realization. I'm not sure if it's possible to see the beauty in others until you know how to see the beauty in yourself. (You can be envious of them, but that's not the same as being able to see beauty in normal flawed humanity.)

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@recursive I don't think this is true, I think this is philosophers bias, which is assuming one's own experiences are universal. You've heard of 'every trans girl is pretty except for me syndrome'. I would assume many trans girls actually do believe others are pretty but just have too much trauma to see it in themselves. I don't believe they are all just envious of others.

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@recursive like some people don't even have envy as like a thing they do I would assume. You could see the beauty of life as if through a window to a far off land especially if you're depressed. I think it is perfectly possible to hate yourself and love others

@eniko to be fair you chose to live in a place known for warmth and the Mediterranean has it's own microclimate too

gaycodegal,
@gaycodegal@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko yeah you're kind of Florida latitude and have your own private sea to retain heat why wouldn't you be warm. Florida never really gets cold either and is surrounded by an actual ocean
