I just received a message with a couple of demos that some students at CUNY Brooklyn College in New York developed based on our 3D Graphics Programming module. Really nice stuff! ❤️

people: its like im sick all the time now. i would give anything to make it stop

me: you could wear a mask

people: no not like that

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

for the record ive been "sick" for the first time in many years with a particularly nasty sinus infection caused by sahara dust storms and i would absolutely do anything to prevent this and it's not even that bad

and i in fact did mask up indoors during the worst of it but we also had to vent the house cause of the absurd heatwaves accompanying the dust storms. i figured keeping my bedroom closed and running an air purifier would be enough but it wasn't (yay climate change)

@Snowshadow scientists say cyprus is basically just gonna be desert in due time

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@AshCarnelian alas i also ran out of my corticosteroid nasal spray right before this so its taking forever getting gradually better

in related news the side of my face fucking hurts lmao

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@Snowshadow i already migrated once due to climate. climate change made weather induced migraines so bad for me and my partner that missouri became unlivable, so we moved to cyprus hearing how stable the climate here was

its better, but apparently its been getting much worse here too for the past decade, multiple cypriots have confirmed to me. so we'll probably have to move again in a few years

@0x0961h i'm good with C. me and C are pals. it's been ages since C shot me in the foot costing me one of my toes

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@crmsnbleyd hmm 🤔 i do have a psp somewhere in my mom's attic, so that could be interesting. i even jailbroke it yonks ago

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@AshCarnelian @crmsnbleyd oh yeah i actually told my mom to check on it years ago after seeing a twitter post and it was swollen

Next person to casually ask me if I "could just..." in a professional setting is getting bit

I cannot just. I am working from when I get up to when I go to bed every damn day without weekends. I have no remaining overhead to "could just" your request

Isn't Stack Overflow acting like they own content users wrote against the law? Like I'm aware it doesn't matter unless someone takes them to court over it but I'm pretty sure when someone creates a post they own that work, not the site it was posted to

EDIT: And no I don't consider putting "all content submitted now belongs to us" in your TOS or EULA as a valid legal strategy to obtain ownership, for many reasons including that this is almost certainly an overreach of an agreement that courts have repeatedly said nobody actually reads, but also because as I understand it there are many countries where copyright can never be fully transferred from the original creator to 3rd parties

@gabrielesvelto oh i like this. its kind of malicious compliance

firefox updated and now text looks different? D: i dont like it

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@evilpie i think the rendering is subtly different

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@evilpie honestly now i dont know if i imagined it or not. might just be visual auras from this migraine >_>

@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

fuck it post deleted it's not worth the risk just to vent about the gatekeepers of success in gamedev

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

oh and if you mostly just ignore the gatekeepers what you're likely to get is something that looks like spiderweb software (jeff vogel) or grey alien games

spiderweb's last game released in march is sitting at 61 reviews on steam. regency solitaire 2 by grey alien games released in late feb and despite outperforming expectations according to the dev is now sitting at 129 reviews

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@0x0961h same as anyone's!

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@Zarkonnen the only way i can think of to sidestep it is to have a successful youtube channel as well. because on YT well produced videos can reach like 30k, 100k, 250k people

but "have a successful youtube channel as well as a successful game" is kind of a big fucking ask

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

oh and if you think you can sidestep this by being well connected and having friends in high places, well, guess what, even those folks are complaining about how those connections now seem kinda worthless when compared to "Exciting Exclusives™"

it's no longer the 2010s, and as far as i can tell you can't make your indie game a success simply by going to a lot of events and making a lot of friends anymore

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@justafrog its not even other devs, its the people who control what games actually get seen

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@floby same, cause covid

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@justafrog nah i've even heard publishers complaining about this. it's literally showcase event organizers

eniko,
@eniko@peoplemaking.games avatar

@garu the ideal situation is that people pouring their all into games over a period of multiple years don't face bankruptcy for it
