Totally forgot that I had purchased Regurgitator’s new album “Invader” about a week ago from iTunes Music Store, giving it a listen now. They’ve mellowed heaps from their older Tu Plang days, but this shit still bops.

Just had to ask ChatGPT something about updating some Yoast SEO-specific data for pages in a Wordpress site I am working on at work here, because Googling returns just junk search results now*.

And the ChatGPT response was succinct, and most of all, correct.

    • I’m sure the junk results are due to having the term “seo” in the search query.

Finally upgraded to Debian 11. Accidentally removed PHP, which broke everything, but that’s all fixed now!

I’m at the stage now where I just skip over podcast chapters that are dedicated to Apple’s Vision Pro. And if the podcast doesn't have chapters, I just mark it as listened and then delete the podcast episode.

Is there really no way to block all calls from WhatsApp for iOS? I use the messaging part of the app occasionally, but never the phone call part, and all calls I’ve ever received from WhatsApp are spam / deadair calls from countries like Uzbekistan and Zimbabwe, places I don’t conduct any business in.

Still a big fat positive this morning after my first test 5 days ago. At this rate I’ll be lucky to have any semblance of a Christmas on the 25th.

I’m crunching down some videos for a client of mine, so I’ve put my M2 Pro Mac mini to work. Chucked 58 videos into the Handbrake queue, and pressed go. It’s chugging along at about 160fps, CPU usage up to just over 800%, and the machine’s getting pretty warm.

I purchased a Bronica PE 50mm f/2.8 lens for my ETRSi from Japan via eBay on Wednesday morning, and it arrived at my doorstep 98 hours later, I’m staggered at this speed. Granted, it was DHL and shipping wasn’t exactly cheap, but c’mon, this is coming from the other side of the planet to where I am.

And of course the lens is in fantastic condition.

Just purchased a Valoi 360 enthusiast DSLR scanning kit. I already have a pole, flange, Manfrotto Super Grip and tripod head (just a cheap Neewer fluid head). I confirmed earlier today that my D500 can tether with Lightroom CC, it does a pretty good job.

All I need now is a hefty base to screw the pole and flange into, and I will have my very own DSLR film negative scanner setup.

Things are falling into place!

I’m seriously impressed with the seemingly improved spellcheck / auto spelling of iOS 17, I’m fat-fingering a lot of words and it’s correcting it correctly 9 times out of 10, a big improvement!

I went to a vintage camera swap meet / market at Box Hill today, it was great (as always). Lots of Minolta, Mamiya and Leica cameras, unfortunately I am not interested in those camera systems (yet), so I didn’t buy any of them.

I did however purchase a Minolta Auto Meter Vf, which I’ve been told is a pretty accurate light meter. The seller reminded me of Comic Book Store guy from The Simpsons, had a sarcastic tongue when explaining to me what I should look for in a light meter, but was pleasant when I decided to purchase this one.

I’ve downloaded the manual and I now have the job of figuring out how to use this.

My hand, holding my new-to-me Minolta Auto Meter Vf, which is a light meter used to calculate the settings I would need to use on my camera to take an evenly exposed photo. The screen reads a shutter speed of 1/125, and ISO is set to 800.

Amazing thread! So much information here.

Do Australia next! We definitely need this level of scrutiny with the big two supermarket chains here. https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@badlogic/111071396799790275

This “feature” was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me, I finally switched to Firefox at home (was using it for dev work at my day job).

After a quick look on their website, it doesn’t seem like I can donate to the Mozilla Foundation, does anyone know if this is possible? https://infosec.exchange/@malwaretech/111019619190896517

Does anyone know if reporting auctions for being in the wrong category on eBay, even gets any action done anymore? I used to keep reporting auctions like USB vacuum cleaners that were showing up under the Vintage Computer category, but they just keep showing up.

OMFG, I’ve been battling getting my PayloadCMS NodeJS project up and running on my VPS with reverse proxy, and just couldn’t get it to load the /api endpoint (vital for the project to work), after bashing my head heaps of times I finally realised that the compiled project kept referring to localhost:3000 instead of my production URL 🤦‍♂️ It pays to scrutinise your Developer Tools Network tab closely.

My .env file had the production URL in it, so why is it doing that?! Other assets for the login screen were loading up fine, just the API endpoint seemed to be stuck on localhost.

Then I found out that my config file did not have the vital import dotenv from 'dotenv’ line, and this is how I found out that, at least with PayloadCMS, setting an env constant in your config for serveURL will fail silently and replace it with localhost instead 🤦‍♂️

Finally got over this hurdle!

I realised last night that deep down, I am unhappy with KeystoneJS. I have to roll everything out on my own – auth, components, media gallery – and the admin UI is super restrictive. Hope you like cards and white backgrounds! What do you mean you don’t like that you can’t put your own logo in the sidebar? Who would want to do that?!

Currently looking at either Strapi or Payload, but Strapi seems to be all graphic UI based and hardly any coding, while Payload only supports MongoDB 🤮

Happy to hear any recommendations! Must be NodeJS headless, able to be self hosted on my VPS, and use either MySQL (MariaDB) or Postgres.

Loaded up some Kodak Ultramax 400 film into my Agfa Optima Sensor flash point and shoot camera, ready to take some photos and test whether the haze in the lens of this bad boy makes only potato quality photographs. But the weather outside is so cold, and so overcast, everything is just grey.

The Wikimedia Foundation has net assets amounting to almost $240m USD in 2021-2022. Don’t feel compelled to donate to them if it’s beyond your means, they’re doing just fine.
