gravitywell,

Mail carriers are not idiots, they just discard the thing as trash since its obviously not an envelope… Business reply mail will only ever be paper letters, so what you actually want to do is just send whatever it is back to them with useless information or if its an actual envelope you can stuff it with glitter or shred the paper inside, its still technically “improper use” but they won’t know that until its at the destination.

gravitywell,

Can you upgrade the desktop? What speed is your laptops WiFi?

I just use rsync manually until I have syncthig working but these don’t really solve slowdown issues and aren’t mounted. I would look into a better NIC and/or storage for the desktop or possibly your router.

Try using something like iperf to measure raw speed of the connection between your 2 systems, see if its what it should be (around 300-600mbps for wireless to wired locally) and try to narrow down where the bottleneck is.

gravitywell,

Frp or nginx are both available on openWRT to do what you want.

What are the most private social media platforms?

I’ve been feeling uneasy about the privacy implications of using Lemmy and similar platforms. The ability for anyone to view your entire posting history feels to me like publicly sharing my browser history. In contrast, most other social media platforms allow you to limit your feed visibility to just friends or followers....

gravitywell,

Depends on your use case but I found a plugin to use openai for dictation in obsidian

gravitywell,

Does your device have a headphone jack?

gravitywell,

You can get torrents full of the archives from sites that used to host tabs for GuitarPro and pirate that software, the one downside is , its like tens of thousands of tabs so its a bit much to organize.

Songsterr seems usable to me with adblocking on, Also I often just search YouTube and find videos with tabs displayed.

gravitywell,

I’d just host them in a library only visible to mom and members that would want to view it.

Also consider the unintentionally comedic value of such films, they’re sometimes fun to watch just because of how bad they are.

gravitywell,

Jdownloader2 is the the best, I’ve not used anything else for years.

gravitywell,

Glad you found what you need. Ive never needed any browser plugins to use JDL2, it just works with copy and past and monitors your clipboard,

gravitywell,

Linux Mint Debian Edition if you find Debian itself too intimidating.

gravitywell,

The nvidia 1650 can’t do AV1 but it can handle hevc just fine, I’m currently using a 1660 on mine and before that it was a 950. Unless you need more than 3 steams at a time you should be able to get it working.

I will never understand why people work so hard to pay off student loans…If you’ve been paying off a loan for years and the balance just keeps going UP, the sensible thing to do is default on the loan, accept the consequences of that (which is minimal with student loans) and move on with your life

Edit: everyone saying they will garnish your wages, this is not something that is common, its fear mongering. If anyone has personal antidotes about having their wages garnished I’d love to know how long that process took and what it was like but I doubt we will see any.

gravitywell,

You’re thinking of bankruptcy, you can absolutely stop paying student loans, you’ll still owe them but they can’t force you to pay them.

gravitywell,

I’m saying you can stop paying, Im not saying you won’t still owe them, but I know people who owe tens of thousands in student loans and have not paid them a cent in over ten years, they have a credit score of around 800, its never affected their ability to get any kind of credit or housing.

I think people over estimate how important they are or what kind of consequences there are for not paying as if it ruins your credit score forever or something, and its just not true.

gravitywell,

By default I just mean stop paying. You can’t get rid of the debt by bankruptcy or anything, you still owe it, but it also doesn’t affect peoples credit score as much as many seem to think it does.

gravitywell,

Okay but what I’m saying is, why work extra hard and take a second job? Why not just make a single minimum payment every 270 days to avoid them moving to the next steps? There are just so many other options besides working a second job to pay them, and so many delay tactics you could employ to avoid getting to the point of garnished wages.

gravitywell,

thank you! Ive yet to hear a single story from anyone who’s actually defaulted and had wages garnished for student loans. Sure it can happen but its pretty rare.

gravitywell,

Interesting to hear, and yeah one of the main issues with garnishing someones wages is, even the government has to do a bit of work to actually track down your employer and people who default on student loans don’t tend to have very good employment (i’m not at all arguing you shouldnt pay them if you can actually afford to, just that you shouldnt go out of your way for it if you’re struggling).

I wonder how much they got from 15% of that one employees wages, I’ll bet it was less then they’d have to pay to actually pay off the loan… and of course if that person ever changes jobs they have to track down the new employer each time. also wonder how common it is for wages to be garnished over say child support compared, or back taxes to student loans…

Onn TV box from walmart is $20

There is also a 15 stick version…

You could find lower end/older devices that will work too but when you can get a new 2023 box that’s up to date and not full of bloatware or spyware, why would you want to risk it?

A raspi isnt what id consider low end or cheap in regards to jellyfin, but it will def work fine.

gravitywell,

Well I know the older 2021 models could be flashed with lineageos and the 2023 might also but its not really an ideal OS for a TV and not really optimized but there is nothing really stopping you from enabling debug mode and unlocking the bootloader on it.

I haven’t done a deep dive but I know my way around adb and disabled almost all the apps i didn’t want and I don’t notice any abnormal activity going on when its supposed to be idle for example.

I didn’t want to link to or reddit but you can find guides on how to remov what little bloat it does come with.

gravitywell,

Yt-dlp, just go to the page with your song or playlist and past that into yt-dlp on PC.

How can i do whatever I want to do ?

I wanted to install jackett and sonarr, they are complicated to use as is, moreover I am using Ubuntu. I am following fuidleine for installing jackett with STUPID command line making it EXTRA difficult. But now I have to change directory ownerships and what nots. I am the ONLY user on this machine. I want to own everything by...

gravitywell,

Use dockstarter.com

Follow trash-guides.info/Hardlinks/…/Dockstarter/

I would also suggest prowlarr instead of jackett.

If that’s too hard then I think you should consider renting a seedbox that has easy one click install options for all the ARRs.

You could ask the same about “free market” capitalism, it’s impossible to have a successful truely capitalists economy too, the US is a mixed economy, China is also a mixed economy… Any future “socialist” based country would still have a mixed economy… The issue is not socialism vs capitalism, it’s a question of how much regulation is needed for the economy in order to minimize the suffering of people overall while increasing the average quality of life.

Some things are better handled collectively and with strong regulations; you probably want your heart surgeon to have a medical license, but you also probably don’t want to have to give up your house and life savings to get said surgery, you probably don’t want the plastic manufacturing company up river from your drinking water to just do what’s economically most profitably and dump their waste into the water, but you probably don’t want to pay the price for bottled water to nestle every time you turn on the tap either.

Since you’re on a reading kick maybe look into some of the past attempted creations of liberatian “utopias” and ask youself why anyone would be foolish enough to think that model might work,

I’d suggest to start: A libertarian walks into a bear.
