Not sure who needs to hear this... but... honey bees throughout the world are an invasive species. They are only native to Europe. Stop trying to save invasive species!

I started using packing cubes this trip to prepare for packing rather than just throwing everything in my luggage... I reallly am liking where this is going. I feel like it will make traveling a lot easier. Certainly makes packing up a bit easier since i dont need a space devoted to my luggage being open for a few days.

guardeddon,

@freemo @freeschool
Have used a Zuca Pro for some yrs now. It came with a set of similar pouches, fantastic piece of gear.

guardeddon,

@freemo @freeschool
Of course, Zuca’s pouches can used elsewhere. While the Pro is sized to comply with std IATA airline carry on dimensions some European airlines eschew IATA recs & make their own rules (eg Ryanair) so I’ll use the pouches but in another piece of luggage. IKEA sold packing pouch sets too, don’t know if they’re in the present product range.

So apparently a plate of rigatoni with cheese and red sauce according to the restaurant is like 1600 calories.... how the fuck is a single plate of food literally a full days worth of calories.... how! How is this normal....

guardeddon,

@freemo
Sugar?

guardeddon,

@freemo
Manufactured pasta sauces with a tomato base will, typically, include sugar.
I make my own, no sugar.

guardeddon,

@freemo Added sugar. In addition to naturally occurring in the fruit.

guardeddon,

@freemo I should have been clear, I mean added sugar, not the naturally occurring sugars. Tomato is a fruit so, yes, natural sugar. Manufacturers of processed foods tend to add sugar.

How to tell if its a spam bot on Facebook:

  1. They are of the opposite sex
  2. They are attractive..

::hmmm a beautiful woman wants to talk to me... there is some tomfoolery afoot!::

guardeddon,

@freemo Went thru a phase of same on Txitter. Blocked & reported every single one. Eventually went away but the inconsistency of response to reports was just inane.

There may be pitfalls to this suggestion that I have not yet discovered. But…. I think I may be an early discoverer of “Arc Search”, a web browser that can “browse for you” and produce useful summaries of lots of web pages all automatically.

This seems very useful.

I asked it for the history of Bracknell and clicked “browse for me”. Look at what it produced; one solid page of information, followed by links to the source material.

guardeddon,

@bloor
Is this a function of the Arc Browser developed by The Browser Company? I took a look at that a year ago but it required me to ‘sign-in’ before use so turned away.

If you don’t like it maybe, I dunno, don’t travel by private jet

ADS-B transmissions are promiscuously broadcast by aircraft. Readily received, decoded, and plotted with an RTL-SDR device, a home made antenna & FOSS software.
Hence, Flughtradar24, Planefinder, and other tracker sites. To Swift’s annoyance, not all tracker sites implement ‘hide’ requests from operators.

It's time to take back the internet from those corporate landlords! For more info, please check out my full-page New York Times advert and ignore the fact I'm a partner at a powerful VC firm in Silicon Valley that funded many of said landlords. *

  • Also, that "readwrite" brand name looks familiar...can't quite place it...

A reminder , tomorrow QOTO will be down for migration. ITs the first step in the new upgrades.

guardeddon,

@freemo 👍 Any idea of times (UTC resident user) so I know when to avoid? Good luck.

@freemo 👍 thank you, the morning doom scroll will not be interrupted!

And sorry if I sound like some old fogey, but I don't give a damn about drone taxis

I would simply like it that a family from Hagen who wants to NOT FLY to Tarragona for their summer holiday COULD GET THERE BY TRAIN, easily and for a decent price

But that seems to damned radical and hard for EU policymakers to care about 🤬

guardeddon,

@jon @dans
Take a train to Italy & ferry west across Mediterranean to Barcelona.
UK option might be long ferry voyage to Bilbao or Santander then RENFE.
(Somewhat tongue in cheek ideas).

guardeddon,

@jon @dans
Wow, foot pax Rosslare-Bilbao is €205 one way without any onboard services added. Add cabin (min €199, not slumming an overnight on a recliner seat) & food/drinks.
That idea didn’t last long 🙁

guardeddon,

@dans @jon
Understand, convenience often translates to short crossings and lower cost.
Living on Ireland, options are limited for direct ferry service to mnland Europe. Ferries tend to be priced for those truly wedded to their car/camper van/motorbike.
I enjoy combining the journey and the destination as the experience but, sadly, flying to Amsterdam or Paris is often a necessary first leg.

who made this? 😂

guardeddon,

@feld @saxnot @nixCraft
The requirement wasn’t ‘redesigning the fuselage’ it was to design an entirely new aircraft.
The present series of 737 is a frankenplane. The powerplant evolution has brought issues at every iteration due to short undercarriage legs designed to accommodate ground clearance for 1960s era low bypass turbojets.
Its avionics evolution has brought issues too: fundamentally a replicated/L-R side config where pilots expected to read the displays & ‘vote’ whether L or R presented the correct information (FBW & other common safety critical systems are triplex).

$50000 for an inactive Twitter account? 🤔

Could I flog off (at)jonworth there (that still has 74000 followers but has been inactive 12 months) and live for some months off the proceeds, knowing Twitter is going to hell anyway? 😎

guardeddon,

@jon
Maybe… whoever’s behind the ‘beautiful girl seeks great guy for super dates’ could buy up one of these accounts?
For weeks, now all ‘likes’ to my account are 100% such engagement.
Every single one is reported & blocked, yet the mod-bots have only acted positively against two.
It’s a sh!t show of human detritus. But, hey, Emon told Rishi AIs will be the future. Hell, yeah!
Sorry, I digress (slightly).

I have been testing out quite a lot of products lately for $reasons. And this one is the first one where I’ve been genuinely massively impressed. The product is made by a brand called “GoVee”. It’s a temperature and humidity sensor with an inbuilt display.

Firstly it’s small, innocuous, neat and just works right out of the box but second, for a (cheap, I assume Chinese) product, the app is… great! This is so rare.

guardeddon,

I got smthg similar looking from Shelly. For $reasons here my ‘project’ to exploit it has stalled. Interested in comment by @revk that these can be flashed… for what outcome, mqtt?

guardeddon,

@revk @bloor
Thank you, I try to read your developments with Shellys, Tasmota, etc. Missed mention of this.

guardeddon,

@revk @bloor
Must investigate what can be done with mine (the Shelly unit launched earlier this year). Had to park the project I was scoping out/working thru but expect to pick it up again soon.

@olives wait... cops in the USA dont even carry sub machine guns (fully-automatic guns of any kind actually)... I am quite surprised to hear in the UK they carry these casually. My guess is they are using the term wrong and they mean a carbine.

guardeddon,

@VoxDei @freemo @olives
Airports and other venues such as Palace of Westminster, London (I visited the buildings, recently. Entrances all guarded by armed Met Police officers).
I'm not sufficiently familiar to discriminate the various types of weapons.

guardeddon,

@freemo @VoxDei @olives
I am reliably informed* that the Met do use straight MP5s, SOP is for the officer to set single fire mode. Mountain of paperwork required if used in auto.
PSNI (as was, RUC) previously used Sterlings, provided this answer to a FoI enquiry:
https://web.archive.org/web/20190803023503/https://www.psni.police.uk/globalassets/advice--information/our-publications/disclosure-logs/2015/operational-policing/weapons.pdf
PSNI isn’t necessarily typical of GB’s police forces due to continuing local terror threat.
Being a major global capital city, London has experienced critical globally influenced terror incidents, accordingly Home Office/Met have established standing protections and mitigations.
