The one thing I miss since leaving Twitter is the legit DougJ Balloon Juice blog’s NYT Pitchbot. Nails it as usual :) #uspoli #humor

All of this "Democrats should worry about tit for tat" is beyond hypocritical. Democrats did not do tit-for-tat against GWB after the ginned up Clinton Impeachment. Democrats didn't do it to Trump after GOP tried the same thing with Obama nor when they refused to support legislation they normally would under Obama. Trump already tried to make the US AG and DOJ his personal law firm. He directly interfered with investigations against cronies and his family. Meanwhile Democratic congressional members and the Biden's own son are under active investigation and criminal cases for stuff that was shady as fuck, in the case of Menedez, or wouldn't normally have gone this far in the case of some of Hunter's charges. Republicans were already going to use these things without the pretense they are presenting here because one of their own was finally held to account.

. . . claims that there are millions of jury ballots missing. Democrat court workers seen loading boxes onto pizza trucks.

hankg,

@cgsines ...and evidence that all the ballots were made with paper from Jina whose writing can be changed from the Soros owned Jewish Space lasers... :)

It's astounding how modern computer idioms we take for granted could be done with NeXTSTEP in 1991. The live video and on-the-fly editing are even more impressive, albeit requiring the $15K model computer. That was impressive performance for that price at the time too though.

hankg,

@Wen I have a NeXT slab that a coworker gave me in the early-2000s. I haven't turned it on for awhile. I kind of want to get it and most of my retro-computing collection recapped (or at least looked at by a hardware person) at this point. I do spend time dabbling with versions of NeXTSTEP I never could play with on InfiniteMac.org though :) infinitemac.org/

I rail on billionaires all the time for their sociopathic pursuit of ever more money and power. The fact is that they behave like most people would if in those shoes. It's like the white people today who say, "I would have been with MLK in the 1950s/1960s". The overwhelming majority of white people were not. Therefore, statistically, probably neither would you. There are truly evil people in the billionaire class, maybe even at a higher percentage than the average population. The problem is often one of general human failings though. That's the reason why we shouldn't let people aggregate that much perpetual power and money in the first place.

Last night I experimented with KVM and VirtManager. With the exception of not being able to figure out resizeable drive images without the CLI I think I'm most of the way to being able to replace VirtualBox as my emulation environment.

I had assumed the whole Republican talking point, even by "moderate" Susan Collins, DA Bragg said he'd "get" Trump during the campaign was true. I should have known better at this point. He did not.

Today was the first day I looked at an American flag and felt proud in several years.

hankg,

@Adventurer Same. I'm sick of looking at it and being pissed that we've let the MAGA GOP co-opt it as their political symbol. The rest of us need to take it back to being a symbol for all.

This year at Platformer we want to tell more stories about the web as it enters a state of managed decline. Here's @zoeschiffer interviewing a man whose independent games site was crushed by a change to Google's search rankings and its embrace of AI: https://www.platformer.news/google-retro-dodo-core-algorithm-change-ai-publishers/

Here's Retro Dodo's founder:

hankg,

@caseynewton @StryderNotavi @zoeschiffer I’ve been very much thinking the same thing. Will that make that corner of the internet as niche as the whole internet was back in the day? Not sure. I’d say worth pursuing anyway.

hankg, (edited )

@jeffjarvis Having watched CNN and Fox News, it seems that this is all bad news for Joe Biden and America. Granted on CNN that was a minority point of view but still one presented. Not surprising I have yet to see a Democrat or Democratically aligned person on Fox's coverage.

...I'm failing miserably at this Fox News verdict coverage Zen exercise. I can't help but be reactive to the their coverage and fun house mirrors reality angle of it all...

hankg,

@skykiss It has very Baghdad Bob feel. But most of their viewers buy it hook line and sinker.

hankg, to random

I don't generally watch cable news but I've decided to turn on Fox News at this moment to see their coverage of the verdict as a Zen exercise.

hankg,

@jann Yes. It's easy to be all calm and non-reactive in an environment that I agree with.

Many people in the US are disengaged from politics -- they don't know a fascist from a farmer...

But TRUST matters, and #Trump's 34 convictions make him untrustworthy to the somnambulant middle.

It's a massive hill to climb to get suburban families to say "okay, yeah, there are no laws -- let's overthrow the system for this huckster."

People can be stupid, but they don't want to be seen as that stupid, that gullible.

hankg,

@DoesntExist That would be amazing if it turns out to be true. Watching the Fox News coverage of this right now it is a funhouse mirrors version of what is going on.

hankg,

@DoesntExist But on the ballot is not someone else but Trump. So will they sit it out? It'd be wonderful if they did just that. Even better, give to Democrats. I just don't see it happening.

hankg,

@DoesntExist I would love to be pleasantly surprised by it.

hankg,

@DoesntExist Yeah the Elector College has a good odds of fucking over the majority of voters again...

Well my plans for having a productive evening and not having a drink tonight are now out the window for sure...but at least for a worthy celebration. Of course there are appeals processes, he may try to pardon himself if he wins in November etc. But fuck it I'm going to enjoy the moment.

hankg,

@Nigel_Purchase There is at least a coin flip probability of that yep, while still losing the popular vote by wide margins for the third time in a row.

@caseynewton Fediverse is remarkably absent of gossip, ads, influencers, stunts and 'tea'. They barely even have viral posts. Genuinely miss that stuff from my time on Twitter, between news and popular convos.

It's so boring, it's as if National Public Radio and a Linux listserv had a love child.

But Fedi is genuinely hard to game with money or a fake controversy. When things seem a little off on a busy news day, I tend to hop over here.

hankg,

@johnweeks @caseynewton Ironically those are the aspects I’ve liked about this place above all the others.
