Evergreen quote about IT products:

"It is unusual and refreshing to see a product appearing on the market with its software ready to run"

That's from a review of the Vectrex video game system in 1982. 😂

@thomasbeagle Lol best - how good though that when you power it on there's no loading required!

I just tried the Windows CoPilot demo that seems to be part of Windows 10 now ... I get 30 free uses by the looks of it - here is my prompt: "make a picture of an american muscle car driving towards the camera with a wide angle showing police cars in pursuit. The style should be neo tokyo and the muscle car should be black with dark windows. The buildings should be tall and there should be a low sun in the background highlighting everything", and here are the results :)

Oh wow and another great chase shot: "change camera angle to be more like 45 degrees, camera from behind the chase, add debris"

Definitely cancelling everything and rugging up with some beers and YouTube tonight. Might even put the fire on.

Success: some Mac’s Apparition, Mac’s Showboat, Moa’s St. Joseph’s, a lot of random YouTube: bad lip reading, piano explanations with Charles Cornell, a bit of GTA2 (!), playing with Windows CoPilot (as you saw). My favourite YouTube pastime is watching people nerd out hard about things they love 🥰

Last night I was lying awake attempting to remember the lyrics to Bob by Weird Al.

I had the ending of one line and was attempting to reverse it to calculate the beginning.

Very difficult at 0100.

@futuresprog I man am regal, a German am I, never odd or even, if I had a hi-fi … this stuff writes itself, or at least it writes half of itself!

40 years ago we had a '100 year flood'. Just six years after we'd had the last one. 🙃

Our family home was enough above ground that we just had surface flooding, but my Grandma and Uncle had to be rescued by boat from their place in Waikiwi. 🛶

And while we're at it thinking about RSS feeds, what about the reverse? I loathe the process of submitting a web form, as there's no guarantee that a) it's going to work, b) that the info will get to eyeballs, c) that you will get a receipt. We're long overdue an application called "Submissions" that is used to manage the submissions you make to entities, almost like an email client. Entities define their submission schema and validation, you then progressively fill in and submit when ready.

Stuff have dropped X as a platform. Good move. But what's the natural replacement, or should we be looking back to lightweight self-published platform agnostic solutions like RSS? Thinking about this for all businesses or organisations who have a need to publish articles.

I switched out my mountain bike tyres for road tyres since 95% of what I’m riding at the moment is the road and oh my lord what a tremendous difference! Should have done it ages ago. It’s like upgrading a HDD to a SSD 😇

Watched a video about the perseid meteor shower. Lots of time lapse video of looking at the sky, and hyperlapse of people standing around as aircraft lights flew overhead, a time lapse of a lighthouse shining beams into the sky, some guy looking through a telescope. I guess meteor showers are just hard to capture on video right?

A while back someone said to me they thought I was just using (GitHub's) Co-Pilot to save myself some typing. I cannot toot how much this is a gross misunderstanding of the technology, and privacy concerns aside, I just have to say how bloody wonderful it is.

Went to a FIFA game last night in Ōtepoti - the screens around the field were pretty cool. Couldn't help thinking about the tech, including the designers who were presumably designing animations with a crazy wide aspect ratio like 100:1.

Been using Co-Pilot lately adnd enjoying it, but had a conversation with someone yesterday and they were like "so one of our devs tried AI assist and I've never heard them swear so much" - don't know what tool, but it sounded like they wre beside themselves with the code that it would write and that this would be accepted by developers who didn't know better.

Sadly I have run out of attitude adjustment packages. I asked at a local supermarket if they had masks for customers, and they said no we don’t do those any more. I said all good, I was just wanting to protect your staff since you only had five staff members on board for the whole supermarket on Monday. I was told quite rudely that it was just that nobody wanted to work and that nobody had Covid, or any other illness. Great. Cool story. Thanks for your time. Will shop elsewhere. Sucks to be you.

Instead of raising the retirement age, how about we lower the retirement age to say, 62, and raise the tax rate for those individuals or companies making substantial profits at the expense of those who are having trouble making it through day to day. If we are in a privileged position to be able to make that kind of income then human decency says that we should do what we can to help others.
