What did DFS use to write on his hand that survived being in the water for so long?

Apparently our big bad is not the descendant of genocide survivors trying to get revenge. The depiction of descendants of genocide survivors as evil is still not great. I hope JLQ gets to stab that dude. Also his facial hair is terrible

heydad,

@Forestofglory

The racism and ethnonationalistic themes in the main plot are only going to get worse and not better from here on out. No shame in quitting, it's pretty egregious tbh. I think my essay is still worth a read if you tap out, so you know the full extent of what propaganda the show is supporting.

I hope you find something else that gives you more joy.

I haven't talked about it much here, but I have fallen into the MLC hole and have absolutely no desire to leave it.

I watched the first 7 episodes and thought, "Meh, this is kind of mid" and then the show goes "A-Fei has joined your party" and that was me done. Over.

There is nothing more I love than tropes like:

Rivals ➡️Friends➡️ Lovers
Bad guy teams up with the good guys
Chosen family (and associated squabbling)

...and the exact character archetype that Di Feisheng is (tall, handsome, ambiguously evil and 💯 a homosexual).

I have a new blorbo now.

heydad,

The show has me in a death grip. The Di Feisheng brainrot has set in faster than any brainrot has for years.

Besides that, the show inverts some common wuxia tropes, most notably the main character having already been a hero and trying to reconcile the ideal and reality of what 大英雄 really means, instead of the more traditional Hero's Journey that many wuxia are.

Also, don't judge the fight choreo by the first episode. The choreo later is quite decent, and holds up to what is expected from a good wuxia.

The plot is interesting and has some fun turns and revelations, and the more you watch the more you realize how interconnected all the cases they have to solve are.

heydad,

@Silversun
I love it when the creativity hits like that. I haven't written anything in more than a year, so I'm excited that the writing bug might mind control me too.

I will hit up your fics once I've finished the show (bc I'm allergic to spoilers). 💙

I remember being at a fundraising event in the fall of 2012 with the creators/cast of Sherlock (Gatiss, Moffat, Freeman, Vertue), and Gatiss kept saying wouldn't it be nice if someday they made a TV show where the detectives were gay, and the gayness wouldn't be a big deal, it would just be a part of the character.

I remember thinking at that time, bruh, you're a writer. You're writing Sherlock right now. Just FUCKING DO IT.

and then I'm watching Deadloch now and it's like...yeah, we're finally here. And with some writers way more talented than that mediocre white cunt Gatiss could ever hope to be. Thank fucking god. FUCKING FINALLY.

heydad,

Deadloch is funny, feminist, queer and subversive, and you should really watch it if you're interested in seeing something upend the expected tropes in a small town murder mystery noir. It's a great way to spend 8 hours of your life.

Given how much her responses so far have raised massive red flags for me, somehow I am surprised, but also not at all surprised

@serenadestrong I can definitely see that! It had all the Sports Anime feelings, but in a realistic adult way and not a Shounen Sports Anime way. I think it told the story it needed to tell in the time it was allotted. I loved watching it, and I'm sad that I watched it AFTER going to Hakone in 2019 and seeing a bunch of KazeTsuyo promo without knowing what it was. 🤦‍♂️ Should've watched it earlier.

hey, i'm teeth. i'm old enough to remember the original run of Kids In The Hall. I always wanted to be a supervillain, but I've just never found the time. Mostly trash. Also , (the yi city party), , , , and
