I also run one of the web's longest-surviving #textAdventure games, called Improbable Island, and I often write here on Fedi about decade-scale online community management stuff. Ugh, need a new cell phone. Any suggestions? I don't want to deal with apple, or samsung, or any other company that's going to act like them, but I also don't want to sink a ton of effort into making the thing work. My last phone was a Pinephone, and frankly it took way too much effort for too little reward, IMO.

@Angle I got a Fairphone 4. As a phone it's a whole lotta money for Just Okay, but as a phone that'll be Just Okay for five years it feels fairly believable.

For real, are there any #CreativeCommons or #PublicDomain games that I can play on this accessible video game emulator? I know about roms and copyrighted wroms and I have those and more but I was wondering if there are actually any literal CC or public domain Roms out there that I can try #Gaming #GameDev #Gaming #IndieGames

@weirdwriter so GB Studio is the name of a newish program for making game boy games, it's got a really easy interface so it's opening up game boy game programming to more people than just programmers, so there's a lot of interesting stuff in there. "Game Boy ROM" tag might also have some gems in it 😁

@ieure Ironically a few years ago I did do a refurb on a 6P X-Men that got so nasty it would've honestly been quicker and easier to fab a whole new panel from scratch, but then the owner sold it a year later ㄟ(ツ)ㄏ

The absolute plonkers even denied its existence to try and get me off the phone quicker.

These blithering pricks, these gormless sods, they sat there on the phone and tried to tell me that they sell this table saw in Canada and Australia and Mexico and the UK and New Zealand, with a sticker on it that indicates the US standard of twelveths of a medieval peasant's foot.

The telly weighs 55kg, I weigh 77kg, to test whether my new CRT stand can handle this telly I'm gonna set this so-called square (actually a triangle, scam) here, sit on the shelf and see how much deflection I get.

Here's how much deflection we get with no additional strips and only two sides on (no back). This is already acceptable considering that I'm not as wide as the telly and I'm sitting in the middle rather than spreading the load the whole width of the shelf; the telly's 22kg lighter also, so there would be pretty much no sag at all. Nonetheless I'm still gonna add some 2cm thick strips below this shelf for extra stability when the cats jump on top of it.

Doing a test fit before I sand and finish, brought the stand outta the workshop upstairs to the telly 'cause I thought since the stand is lighter, it'd make more sense than taking the telly downstairs.

Aye the stand's lighter all right but damn is it awkward to move around

Telly's in, no noticeable deflection on the telly shelf so we're good!

Q: Why do the sides of the stand extend up along the sides of the telly, why not just stop when the telly's supported?

I bought a new HVLP sprayer in like February when it was on sale and I had a lucky coupon, I said to the guy "Boy I can't wait til I can try this thing out in like May," bloody robins wait to hatch until I'm just about ready to spray some lacquer

So last time the fawn visited, it was gone by they time I picked the kid up. So I didn't tell her about it, didn't want her disappointed that she'd missed it.

This time, I clocked it were still there from the road, told her it was a special day and she had to be quiet and smooth and slow and not go any closer than me, and we went and saw the fawn.

THEN, we went and saw the baby robins.

THEN, while we were watching the robins, we heard movement, and there was the mum, up the hill, with the fawn around her feet.

"Wow," I whispered to her, "Quiet fawn, didn't hear him going up the hill."

So then we got our bikes down and took them past the original fawn FEDI THERE ARE TWO FAWNS

good bloody god it's still january and all the radio's talking about is biden v trump, biden v trump, everybody hated it in 2020 and we've let it happen again, stay tuned for every anxiety-producing infodribble between now and ELEVEN FUCKING MONTHS FROM NOW, it is 100% normal and sensible to spend at minimum a quarter of your life in fight-or-flight panic mode, the polls don't even close until eight but keep refreshing that tab anyway, does it make you feel better to read our guesses about the results, does it give you a feeling of control like you maybe know what's going to happen, will you go off and do something else and think about USPOL or does staring at it feel more concrete, is it like watching an excited clown slowly stripping jolly wrapping paper off a severed head and leaving the face for last and hoping it's not yours as he sings happy birthday to you
