don't understand the confusion about the MN SRO law. it's pretty fucking clear: don't put the kid face down - the part of the law banning specific holds (and corporal punishment by school staff) is not even a page long how is this so hard to understand

on the cop's part it feels like they see this as a liability, i get that, but they publicly talk about it like everyone in the school will die if they can't put students face down and restrict their breathing

i'm not even an outsider on this topic, my school (central) hasn't had cops in the building for my entire time here and the district security folks haven't had to put anyone in a position described by this law despite multiple violent incidents

i don't understand why any of the holds described are vital to day-to-day policing

I switched to Fedora Branched today for dev reasons and was shocked to see the new GNOME pill. I will admit I like the pill but I am incredibly upset about the loss of the focused app indicator, i don’t use one app per workspace and it’s helpful to know what’s focused with a quick glance (so i don’t type in the wrong place for example) I’m hoping for an extension to fix this but sadly there isn’t one right now

🚨 NERDS! TECH QUESTION! 🚨
The daughter is in rented accommodation. Her room is at the top of the house. WiFi access point (Sky ER115) is far away so she has poor reception. Needs WiFi extended. Can't replace the access point. Thinking of two Ethernet over Power plus a WiFi access point? Does anyone have good suggestions?

@popey You could use airport routers, you just need to plug one into ethernet to make a network that you can extend with another airport

Alright, so I’ve been thinking about making a couple changes to Early Access to hopefully get more folks interested in it. It worked extremely well as is for a while but I think things have settled in and subscriber numbers are much lower than they were at first launch, so that’s telling me we need to improve the value proposition. Here’s my two ideas there:

@wjt Yep I’m across the pond, and in the middle of that landmass, I’m a bit curious about the hardware, I heard there was a split disk thing, and i’m wondering if that was two SD cards or just partitioning, also how the space in that case was utilized. The whole thing seems a bit strange but that’s why it’s so interesting

Mmkay so I just ordered a StarLite and I’m super excited about this form factor. I’m looking forward to working with things like the back camera, the pen, on screen keyboard. Really stoked for much better tablet support in OS 8 😊

Just finished Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary and holy christ was it good

On the note of the film adaptation, mixed feelings on them casting Ryan Gosling - But Lord and Miller directing gives me hope

All around, Project Hail Mary was incredibly good, and turned into a page turner quickly. The other great thing is that this book was so much fucking better than Artemis, which felt closer to something like Cyberpunk Edgerunners with a kumbaya ending (the city is saved, everyone lives, and the corpos get fucked, but this is a bitchfest for another day)

Anyway, go read this thing, well worth your time
