Why is there no good options for a blog anymore? Indie options like micro.blog just feel half-baked.

Options like WordPress are more full-featured but I loathe the direction they are going with blocks.

I like Ghost but it is just not cohesive to a microblogging format.

I just want a platform that offers support for long posts (essays), short posts (link posts), and micro psots (tweets). Make it look nice on a site, and load well on an RSS reader. I am at a loss of what to use honestly.

@jimmylittle Yeah the downside about everything being so decentralized is that it isn't easy to keep track of everything and pull/push to them all. I would love to know what your current shortcut does though

So these past two weeks have been very busy for me. On February 20th my daughter, Sloane, was born. Lots of sleep lost, mistakes made, and learning being had. I wouldn't change any of it for the world.

@robb @adam I would love to use the blog feature but that thing about it is that there is so much that isn't available (fediverse, webmentions, and documentation to address how to change the theme.) I love omg.lol as a service but I can't justify using it for a blog just yet. I hope it gets there though!

I want a site like @kottke where I have traditional blog posts but also short posts.

The problem I have is Ghost isn’t cohesive to this kind of blogging.

I like WordPress but it’s SO CLUNKY now.

I know about Micro.blog and I love what they offer but making it my own is next to impossible for me because of how much work it takes to make it.

I’ve thought about 11ty but that’s even more coding.

I think Arc’s mobile app could be great, but I just don’t think it’s there for me right now.

@robb what 11ty blog startup templates do you recommend? Also, what are you using for image hosting?

Ideally I’d like to use GitHub, Netlify, or Vercel to build the site and have it be totally free to host but I know images aren’t exactly easy to use.

I have a bunny.net account but I’m not sure if I need it for an 11ty blog.

Also, what about things like web mentions and stuff like activitypub? I LOVE how micro.blog shows all replies from Mastodon and Micro.blog on each post.

I need to find a notes app that does the following:

  • Accessable on iOS, Mac, Windows (web version on Desktop is fine)

  • Ease of use for both mobile and desktop

  • Sustainable business model

  • Supports quick capture/adding items easily

  • Task management is a plus

Any suggestions is appreciated!

I have officially deleted Clicked from Substack. I am now using Ghost for the website and will share more thoughts on this soon. In short, I refuse to be a part of a nazi bar on Substack and am going fully independent.

@andyn nope! I’ve imported all members. Paid members will have their subscription end next year without automatic renewal. If/when I start a paid membership plan again they will need to sign up for it.
