Let’s do an unscientific poll to raise awareness and motivate people ;) Reposts welcome!

Do you have a library card from your local public library that gives you access to books, music, movies for almost free, including digital services like reading 100s of newspapers and magazines from around the globe in many languages?

@jwildeboer New neighborhoods in the city I live in are technically outside the city limits - often for 15+ years. A major side-effect of this is $50-60/yr fee for library access. Really wish libraries were a state or maybe county level so access was free to all. A high % of kids around here don’t have free access to a public library and it just feels wrong. The fee isn’t huge but putting up barriers really lowers usage I believe

After a few months on my first Tailwind project I can say it has lived up to my expectations: nice framework for those without prior CSS experience, or for JS or backend devs, but not my thing. I can live with it but I’d rather not if given the choice. Maybe cause I’ve been pro CSS since the beginning, I don’t know. Just seems to not click with the vibe of what CSS really stands for

I haven't quite wrapped my head around how best to use it yet, but Split Screen in MS Edge is kinda cool! Using Edge on a client Windows laptop for the latest gig, and I've never seen this trick in other browsers before... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/features/split-screen?form=MT00D8

I've kinda been following this case over the past few months. I have to admit, I did NOT see this plot twist coming.

@cpultz this is so wild! Yet also so similar to apparently how gun laws rely on some ancient England decision too, that it’s wildly plausible and still so crazy https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/revisionist-history/guns-part-1-the-sudden-celebrity-of-sir-john-knight

Tech Blogs are journalism in the purest sense of filling-a-gap in the lack of a larger journalistic presence in the deeply technical space, and I think that's a big reason why we're nostalgic for their return to the forefront

Too often, the amount of bugs caused by code seems to be proportional to the cleverness-level of said code

Storm pushed back the start by 50 minutes, but was a great 1/2 marathon morning today in Papillion! 🦋

Proof I didn’t quit halfway on the route this morning lol

Agree with all the points here. I'll add one more:

  • Remember when Jest Snapshot tests came out and were all the rage? Quickly "test" your code. Then people realized that the tests were brittle and the semantic reason for tests was lost...|

Kinda feels like these AI tests will go through the same adoption curve

Being from Nebraska — the most amazing thing on vacation in Arizona is how there is no wind. Zero wind. No morning wind. No evening breeze. Nada. Amazing

Really considering starting to post recipes on a blog, not because I want to be a “food blogger” (ugh) but purely because the web deserves some un-bloated, ad-free, tracking-free recipes somewhere

Random beautiful fall afternoon thought: Omaha hype is high lately - tech scene - city growth - airport expansion - streetcar line going in - metro at 1.1 mill and growing --- going to be a handful of remote-work centers in this next century --- so don't sleep on Omaha!

Love how Kotlin builds in helpers to all sorts of random things that Java never got around to doing. The padStart function came in super handy when saving data to a mainframe today and needing to pad zero's in front of the last four of an SSN:

request.ssnLastFour?.padStart(9, '0')

Jeff Ament talking about energy and electricity of finding the perfect groove with a team, from little league to Pearl Jam, and how the group amplifies things not a few times but a 100 times exponentially... Wow! Such a good description of finding and working on A+ software teams too. You know when the team has "it" and you never pass up a chance to get the band back together https://youtu.be/84bhhu32PII?si=tr-Jd4iVfqSKeuHI&t=1642
