A nice syntax for HTML tables

I show a convenient and flexible shorthand syntax for tables in Znadoc, a document creation system I'm developing.

What do you think? Is it readable?

TOML and YAML compared to JDAML
HTML compared to JDAML

jevko,

@RyunoKi when the implementation is more advanced I'll put up an online playground to mess around with this -- will let you know if you're interested.

BTW here is a doctest demo playground you asked for: https://jevko.github.io/playground/ :D

it is very unsophisticated, so I don't think you'll find it particularly interesting or useful; anyway there it is;

jevko,

@RyunoKi I think a version of the above based on JDAML may be interesting;

overall I think JDAML could be more interesting for a user looking for a particular generic format rather than a bare-bones syntax for trees to DIY

jevko,

@RyunoKi a JDAML-based solution here could look something like this.

It's generally more verbose, but the format does some heavy-lifting for you. If there was tooling, syntax-highlighting, etc. that would work with JDAML, then for most users going with JDAML would be preferable than rolling your own Jevko-based format.

Which is to say JDAML is more of a direct alternative to XML, JSON, YAML, etc. than Jevko is.

jevko,

@RyunoKi

Put concisely: plain Jevko is for building custom formats, JDAML is a versatile format built on Jevko.

A simple backwards-compatible Jevko extension to support fenced blocks of arbitrary text

You know what Jevko is exceptionally good for? Manual editing.

There is no redundant characters to look at or type. Just square brackets to build hierarchy.

Square brackets are the best, because unlike other types of brackets, you don't have to hold shift to enter them on a typical keyboard.

They are also relatively rare in text, which minimizes the need for escaping.
