We have solar but found another option, push reel mowers was perfect for our small yard. It’s a bit more of effort if the grass is tall (we have UC Verde drought tolerant grass so I let it grow out to cut down on watering) but I don’t ever have to worry about batteries or gas/fumes/noise. Plus I get a workout and it was basically the only type of mower that’s still made domestically.
Can attest the Amish-made ones are built like tanks and run smooth (provided the grass is on the shorter side)
I was checking to see how a 3/4" dog hole would look in a vise jaw made from two 3/4" pieces of plywood. Just clamped for the test, but would be glue for the real thing. Interesting to see the hole opened up. And luckily no splitting, but do you think it would work as an actual vise jaw? This is for a Veritas quick release front...
Depends on the type of work, but you may want something denser down the road if you find you’re cranking down on a narrow piece and it’s flexing. Even something with more plies like Baltic birch might give you more mass, but I’ve only ever used hardwoods for my vises so can’t say for sure.
Earlier today I received an email from Proton with an annual survey. Among standard questions there was a significant amount of AI related questions, e.g. mail assistant. Does it mean Proton is looking into AI?
This is what I try to tell people who just want the cheapest things possible. We’re voting with our dollars what kind of world we want.
Also, shipping things across the sea burns some of the worst fuel for the environment so I’d rather buy things made here and support the local economy whenever possible.
MSFT has a $3T market cap and $60B of free cash flow each year, so I doubt they’re hurting for money. This is how “growth at all costs” incentivizes myopic decision-making and doesn’t really help foster an environment where studios are willing to take creative risks. Even when they succeed (a la Hi-Fi Rush) they’re on the perpetual chopping block.
Who came up with this, and when? I got the impression that this is a relatively new invention, even though it seems so simple that it makes you wonder how this could even be something new. You still meet people who have not heard about it, even though they have a modern sleeping pad that could be shnozzled....
Really comes in handy, especially if I have to inflate a two person pad. And it’s dual purpose as a dry bag/stuff sack means it’s useful the whole hike.
So far for me it’s Konosuba and Dungeon Meshi. I’ve already read Mushoku Tensei and I don’t think I can stomach watching it animated, but I haven’t really heard much about any of the other new releases.

100%, he delivered on that campaign promise. You can see the direct result in climate investment following the passage of these acts. In addition to protecting millions of acres of public land and strengthening existing regulations. I always find it disingenuous when people say both parties are the same, because one is actually trying to address climate change while the other is accelerating it.
$6.4B for HashiCorp on the heels of $4.6B for Apptio and $34B for Red Hat back in 2018. I wonder how long until they expect each of these acquisitions to be accretive?
That’s cool, I hope you can make it happen. My pipe dream is to build a small timber frame cabin for myself and a canoe to go with it. I’d also like to contribute more (time-wise and monetarily) to some non-profits/environmental causes I feel strongly about. And about a dozen or so half-finished fullstack projects I’d like to pick back up on. Oh and read a lot, maybe try writing.
Lately I’ve been investing more in my hobbies rather than socking it all away for retirement. I want to develop the skills for them now (before fitness and dexterity become an issue) and make use of them as I get older, even if it means delaying FIRE a bit. Plus it gives me something to look forward to during the week.
Had the fortune of seeing them live. They were fantastic, highly recommend. Ron also brought up one his students to play a song with the band and you can tell he’s a great teacher too.
Recently moved over to porkbun after dealing with a couple billing issues with namecheap and not getting the best customer service. Been pretty happy so far.
Growing up watching Dragon Ball and DBZ is a fond memory and definitely a reason I got into anime like many others. Thanks for sharing your creativity with the world. RIP Toriyama-san.
