I wrote an opinion piece for the Ottawa Citizen about the rise in Ontario's dementia numbers and how it stands to change all stages of life for the next few generations if we don't implement some wide-ranging changes asap. https://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/heartfield-we-need-better-ways-to-care-for-those-with-dementia

Less than one week until this online, two-hour workshop with @AmandaEarl and me on using the techniques of poetry to improve our prose (and vice versa). We have a great group of participants, but still room for more, including two free donor-funded slots. Email kateheartfield@gmail.com

kateheartfield,

Just an update to say the free spots have now been claimed, but we are still open to registrations (and we're always open to talk about accommodations)

Tomorrow (Saturday) I'll be signing books at The Spaniel's Tale in Ottawa, with my friend and talented author Derek Kunsken. We'll be there from noon to 2 pm and would love to see some friendly faces!

Holy cats, The Embroidered Book just won the Aurora award for best novel! Thanks so much to the voters and so much love to my fellow nominees. If you want to watch my speech, it's at around 1:11 (the final few minutes) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FlRl0g279U

Looking forward to launching The Valkyrie at Perfect Books on Sept. 19! My friend and fellow author Don Butler will moderate, and I'll take questions and do a quick reading (and I have stickers!) Ottawa area folks, please mark your calendars and come by if you can. If you aren't able to make it, feel free to email PB and I'll sign and personalize a book for you to get shipped or pick up. (You can also do this if you preorder from the Spaniel's Tale. Ottawa bookstores know where to find me!)

My Pemmi-Con (NASFiC) schedule for this weekend. Things are still a bit in flux, so please do check this against their schedule if you're attending. Very much looking forward to interviewing Waubgeshig RIce on Friday! I'm not sure how the kaffeklatsch signups work, but I'd love to see people, so please do come. I brought my stamps, pens and bookplates so do drop by the autographing too, even just to say hi.

I'm off to Winnipeg for Pemmi-con (NASFiC). If you see me there, do say hi! I currently have chin length blond hair, bangs and a blue streak.

kateheartfield, to AssassinsCreed

My novel Assassin's Creed: The Resurrection Plot is out today in paperback in the US and Canada, and ebook everywhere. (audiobook Aug. 1, and UK paperback in September.) It's a sequel to The Magus Conspiracy, but like that book, it tells a complete story without cliffhangers. Thanks to my editor Gwendolyn Nix at Aconyte Books, to cover artist Bastien Jez, and to the readers and fans!

It's a smokey and possibly tornado-y Canada Day, which I'm spending with a novel draft. This novel has fought me harder than anything I've ever written, but it's getting there.

Things I think about on a Friday night: It's weird that English never adopted the word "sosie" from French, which precedes "doppelganger" in German (maybe by a lot, since it's a reference to Sosia, a character in a Plautus play.)
