I agree with you, I’d just gently suggest that it’s borne of what is probably significant upset at having to deal with what they’re having to deal with.
Similar position here. I used to develop many years ago but I’d be slightly rusty now. Currently work in cyber security where I help people protect their privacy so I’m familiar with ways that privacy is broken. Just getting a non-VPN / non-Tor IP address would result in an arrest for example.

They were very expensive to run and had to be constantly changed. As a kid we always had a drawer of replacement bulbs ready. I don’t bother any more they last so long.
