@cstross surprised Scott Morrison isn't on that list

Local museum has a portrait of a relative of @cstross (per Wikipedia). Charlie has him beat on style.

@cstross and he was behind the “Lidice Shall Live” movement, which is the kind of visionary master stroke which any skiffy writer might envy.

#writerscoffeeclub May30. How do you achieve a sense of wonder in your stories?

A sense of wonder is one of two possible responses that emerge from a sense of alienation (distancing from the world-as-understood: the apprehension of something vast or alien that's normally just out of sight when viewed from a mundane perspective).

Of course, the alternative response is a sense of cosmic dread (which is what Lovecraftian horror relies on).

Whether you feel wonder or dread is a matter of tone.

@cstross this is definitely a spot where "both/and" beats out "either/or"

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Someone who sounds genuine to pop in every couple of hours and validate me and my writing.

I don't expect to obtain this any time soon.

5/4. What's the worst thing about being a writer?

When things are not going well, that insidious little internal voice which pops up and tells you that nobody is making you do this, and that you could have chosen some straightforward job like digging ditches.

At the end of our Museum of Mankind exhibition, we invite visitors to think about their own grave goods, and how future archaeologists might interpret them. This is the cutest response so far, and we love you, Lyra and Della 💓

@vagina_museum so much (yet again) for the transphobe rallying cry "Archaeologists will think you were a man".

First critique session in a long time tonight and I'm dreading it, not for what others may say about my extract, but because I find it ludicrously difficult to come up with anything constructive to say about other writers'. I try not to see this as a failing, but it's very hard not to. I seem to always end up commenting on punctuation and trivial things such as that.

I'm extremely open to suggestions for how to get over myself regarding this.
