Does anyone remember that air quality app that had a purple icon? 🤔 I know this is vague, but I remember that I had it on TestFlight through Mastodon.

@duncandesi9n @JeroenSchaper I know Carrot says pollen data is US only, but weirdly I get it with AccuWeather in France! Can’t speak to the Netherlands though

@JeroenSchaper @duncandesi9n Looking at AccuWeather’s website, the results match what’s reported in Carrot. I compared those results to a French pollen app: the French app’s data is more limited—only reports grass and multiple tree species—but those two data points seemingly align with AccuWeather.

Also anecdotally, seems that on days when grass is high, I have a rough time. Whereas mold doesn’t seem to bother me much. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@JeroenSchaper @duncandesi9n Although that said, AccuWeather’s general reporting seems to be less accurate than Foreca and Apple Weather—especially with regards to rain—for the last few weeks. Of course I switched to it after pretty extensive testing between the three last year and determined it was the best 🤦🏻‍♂️

So the pollen data may not be worth it if you’re not getting accurate weather reports.

Redoing my site again. I’m happy with the look, but frustrated with the performance—mostly re: images.

I’m using srcset for responsive sizes. I’m specifying width and height to eliminate layout shift. I’m compressing the hell out of my JPGs and PNGs with ImageOptim (85%).

Anyone have any more advice?

Full-bodied and light roasted UI ☕ 🤡

I’ve somehow resorted to sailing the high seas for like half the films and shows I watch (🤫) (though I’m typically at the cinema at least once a week), but mostly avoiding streaming and instead buying loads of music from artists’ pages on Bandcamp, both digital and vinyl.

Just tired of renting all the stuff I want to enjoy, and feeling good about supporting artists with direct purchases and box office tickets.

Interesting. Microsoft seems to be mimicking aspects of the visionOS UI—multiple light sources, a slight dimensionality to the edges—even though this isn't a visionOS app.

I don't know if any pundits have officially named the visionOS aesthetic as one of 2024's top UI design fads, but I have a suspicion it's going to be.

@csilverman Microsoft’s mockups and marketing have utilised a glassy, 3D look for a while now, before visionOS was introduced. Which is odd—but not really considering their track record—because this aesthetic is basically absent in the actual products. Been waiting for the products to catch up but haven’t seen it yet.

@JeroenSchaper fair enough, the app screenshots I shared are legit. It’s just the all the depth and gloss around them that seem pretty absent from their product design. (Though tbf I use a Mac, so not a great source lol)

I wonder if Copilot really looks like this, with transparent windows?

haven‘t seen it covered in my timeline much yet – is everybody aware that clear released its big 2.0 update yesterday?
it‘s that iconic to-do lists from early app store days. and it comes with a ton of features, themes, alt app icons and rewards.

clear won‘t replace things for me but i‘m really glad it‘s back!

@gestalter I was beta testing it last year! They’ve done a ton of great work and I’m really glad it’s back too … but it can’t replace Reminders.app for me without collaborative lists. Unfortunately I need that for groceries with my partner, and I’m not using two list apps.

Still, it’s very fun!

Honestly it kind of just baffles me that they’re not using the WhatsApp brand green as the tint for the app. They introduced new brand guidelines last year I think, but none of that seems to have made it into the product itself.
