Quite like how on internet you sometimes have grey-haired folks playing anime/meme music.

Like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p_7UJRdSbY (He seems to play a lot of different musics, interestingly most of the folk ones I know like Katyusha and Säkkijärven polkka are because of anime…).

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

Also it reminds me that one of the things I quite love with folk and ~classical music is the different renditions and arrangements of the same songs.
Same song can end up very different by just the way it's played.

@psykose Not sure but given it's got named selfcest I guess people think it is.

One habit I need to get out of is logging out of accounts when they have their own browser container. For decades I'd make sure I'd log out of accounts to help prevent XSS attacks, but w/ containers that is/shouldn't be a problem as that container is only used for that specific site.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@feld @encthenet Heh well badwolf has containers built-in, effectively because there's a lot of ways of getting cookie-like storage from browsers, so even things like first-party only http-cookie don't seems enough to me.
(Like you entirely can use ETags as cookies, so I keep caching isolated)

That said the containers in mine aren't per-site, it's more there to avoid tracking/fingerprinting than security, and while a modification to make it per-site would be doable, it would be horrible in terms of performance.
I think a dedicated browser like Tangram makes more sense for when you want webapps to be isolated. That said I somehow still haven't evaluated it.

Heh, Calling Shining Finger "mail daemon".
Forgot if anime translated it that way.

Also just noticed, Daru seems to have a beautiful X68000, that's also retro!

Neither can I copy-paste it here. :cirnoHeh:
[Daru] "Ugh, a JPEG? Come on I can't copypaste this."

lanodan,

@daya It says both here, Shining Finger as her ~name, mail daemon as an adjective for her spammy behavior over phone email.

@xarvos Can't select the text :/

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@a1ba Yeah, gives a "grandpa attic full of weird stuff" kind of feel, which I quite like for their lab, specially compared to the anime.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@a1ba Also didn't look who did the character designs but I like Luka and Mayushi in it.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@steffo Having watched the anime adaptation of R;N not exactly sure how, I guess the VN has more stuff in it?

Also feels a bit weird to be using zypper, got used to it on SailfishOS.

fvwm then? Okay OpenSuSE has it.
dwm I could understand not having it, but not having jwm nor cwm feels a bit weird.

It's funny how people talk about getting smaller keyboards to make space for their mouse, when I solved the problem a different way by using a trackball for as long as I can remember. :blobfoxgooglymlem:

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@tk Heh, trackball gang here as well and yeah I'd almost go for larger keyboards since I switched but I'd still want a split one (to slap the trackball in the middle) and I'm not a fan of numpads, just extra row/cols.

Released cve-client 1.1.0 to deal with CVE Schema 5.1 (also now it only checks the major version, so if schema 5.2 happens it should be fine).

This thumbnail is so full of shit I won't be clicking.

I gave WinXP its very own public IPv4 address for an entire month and literally nothing happened. Squeaky clean at the end.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@p @r000t @teratology Heh, for SMTP here I use ssh: sendmail = ssh server_machine sendmail in mutt/gitconfig/…
(btw for the complete idiots that tend to pester me everytime: No I do not use Sendmail, sendmail(1) is a de-facto standard command)

Basically because I'd rather not deal with SASL client certificates, way too close to x509 in most servers (and I'd rather not vendor-lock myself), and then making clients use it sounds like yet another pain.

@shrimp @mia @georgia @ignaloidas @sun Which doesn't really solves anything, in fact if you toggle on a file after the other(s) long finished downloading, the slowness of BitTorrent still hits you.

It's the kind of case where a mirror network similarly to what's done with distros makes more sense.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@ageha @cassidyclown @georgia @sun Kind of reason why I really want platforms like arXiv/HAL/… but also Sci-Hub to eat their lunch.
Scientific publications aren't some kind of trade or military secret, because if they would, you'd have serious issues (universities typically being open access or very close to).

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@sun @cassidyclown @georgia @ageha Yeah, they typically do a bit more than like archive.org or a random FTP site (not sure for JSTOR but some publications hosters have quite neat tagging, plus full-text search at scale).

But it's a bit like if something like if a somewhat commercial software repository were offended by someone making a mirror (meanwhile I think sourceforge, which is corpo-backed, still has few other organisations including corporations hosting official mirrors).
