I am begging people to stop blogging with substack (email bookclubs aside).

every time I click a link it bothers me TWICE to sign in. TWO different pop-ups. I am not accessing these illicitly (well maybe thinks so) these are not subscriber only articles. I just want to read the article you are sharing that proves your point.

Get a blog (not wordpress though) with an RSS feed. Or at least use a less obnoxious service. No, medium is NOT less obnoxious.
I beg you.

and while I should not HAVE to do this, if you have an extension or a script (for Firefox) that makes Substack less fucking obnoxious, please share it. I will use it, and pass it along.

I... I actually did some worldbuilding today. Is this the end of my writing funk????

I did some good yesterday (well, more REwriting). One thing I'd like to do more is blogging. I've got my quarterly media reports that I've been doing since June of last year.
But what sorts of things would you like to read blog posts about?

Like @lapis started as a book blog (the Blog in my profile is my "main" writing place, but I still update the booktoot blog, ) to give you an idea of what my blog/essay writing is like but I don't update much besides the quarterly stuff.

Also if anyone knows how on a free wordpress site to give image descriptions if you post an image in a post please tell me. I want to be accessible, which is why I have posted very few images (and making sure it's not an image necessary to understand the post) at some point, maybe next time I sell a story (🤞) I will start a non-free site, and hopefully have more options.

@weirdwriter Thanks so much! I'll work on editing in image descriptions as soon as I can. You're the best!

I added an RSS link on my blog (couldn't get the icon though for some reason???) - https://lapiswrites.wordpress.com/feed

I'd love to hear what you think.

the booktoot blog (that I @'d above) doesn't seem to have an RSS Feed, maybe WriteFreely doesn't support that?

The Booktoot blog has some older posts that I don't like enough to add to the new site, but both blogs get my current blog posts

@aenea @bookstodon if their site doesn't say anything about it, possibly not.

To be clear, I am NOT in charge of the site, just a fan, I would contact them instead.

I'm lapis / jude but I write under the pen name Rae A. Shell.

A few years ago I placed 3rd in a magazine contest and published Remnants

Basically- What if the grief over a death in the family caused your father / creator to build you--his daughter's robot replacement? You are given the impossible mission of emulating the predecessor perfectly. But everyone has their own perspective on the dead Emmy.

Story here- https://onthepremises.com/issues/issue-37/issue-37-place3/

I never used to plot when I was younger (outlines were those things you did for high school essays) but more and more I find plotting / outlining easier, as long as I give the story room to breathe.

Unless the scene is a bad idea & everything stops working, headlights that give me the next plot-point are quite helpful.

That said, for short stories, I don't usually outline until I'm editing.

You know how Stephen King says you have to write every day if you want to be a writer? Yeah. Literally can't do that. Too disabled.

I try to write as often as I can, but I have things like routine procedures in the hospital that mean I can't write: anything I write after going under anesthesia is just going to get thrown out.

I'm sure King's advice works for him, but that doesn't mean it works for everyone.

Beverage: I really like having tea in the afternoons when I write. My current favorite thing is to brew some masala chai, and then sweeten it with honey.

Snack: It used to be if I wrote I would reward myself with chocolate, but my brother currently keeps buying packs of Flan from the supermarket and let's just say: ¡me gusta los flanes! 😋

lapis can have a little flan, as a treat

I used to be really into YA, but my current WIP? Definitely not YA. And that's got me looking at adult fiction once more.

I love YA & it's important to remember your childhood, but I want to focus on Books for Adults right now.

But mainly? I want an audience that demands more queer heroes and villains, more queer everything

@weirdwriter I'm using this hopefully as a social thing and hopefully to make myself stretch out of my comfort zone a bit.

I get so scared talking about my writing, I think because anything can change, and I can't give immediate results, but writers would get that, right?

Today it's time to request some books (and comics) from my library :sickos: So excited for this.

If you're wondering, I go over my StoryGraph TBR and use library extension for firefox. It does a pretty good job of telling me if the library already has it, (though sometimes I have to double check).

Library Extension: Saving you time, and presumably money ™️

lapis,
@lapis@booktoot.club avatar

my library has updated their request system so digital materials HAVE to be requested through libby.

That's fine since libby can do that (it couldn't for a while) but now with digital titles I'm worried they'll know how greedy I am about books (especially gay ones)

lapis,
@lapis@booktoot.club avatar

@libreture lmao yes!!!

Protip: Schedule in your calendar a time each month that you beg your library to buy certain comics.

It doesn't have to be the same day every month, I like to spice it up.

But yes I've started scheduling "go through storygraph with library extension and see what my library lacks"

@phildini thank you! I felt so proud of myself for coming up with the idea

You know not that Ben Galpin (Jonathan Harker) is by any means bad but I so far I think Karim Kronfli (Dracula) is stealing the show

listen to the podcast ( Re: Dracula ) if you haven't already. it's good
