i posted about this on followers only earlier but making rape comparisons this casually is like intensely evil. i do not care how important you think your argument is you do not get to claim the trauma of sexual assault survivors to virtue signal about your computer opinions. this isn't going to actually convince anyone to stop working for microsoft or google you just want to declare yourself to be In The Right and you seem to feel fully comfortable using rape to be provocative about it. this is like 4chan tier misogyny in my eyes
the actual problem is not that people have boundaries, but that there's a culture of pretending that they have boundaries that they don't keep to at all, which can lead to kids feeling like they're not sure who they're allowed to talk to, and especially make queer kids feel like their existence on the internet is inherently pornographic or shameful. people might be responding to genuine fears about zealous litigation for interacting with a kid as a queer person online, but all of us accepting that would be ceding the condition that queer kids don't deserve community. the solution is to actually work to build an all-ages community and not to harass people into revising their boundaries
a lack of community is genuinely one of the most dangerous things in the world. i have so many Issues from desperately searching for any sort of human contact that i wouldn't have if i had had a place like this earlier. i'm more sympathetic to the "interacting with minors would put me in legal danger" argument than i used to be but queer kids aren't just gonna vanish off the internet because you closed your eyes and counted to 10 so unless you're committed to an actual strict 18+ space we have to learn to live with each other
