Anyone got experience with or can relate to the following?

I’ve lately been itching to go back to uni, to the point where it’s driving me a bit nuts. Since the opportunity cost of a move like that would be quite high, I’ve been trying to figure out what I’m really looking for here.
I think it’s the idea of having learning as a job again for a while, instead of having to get my learning in on the side and always in a rush. Plus, having peers to talk to who also have learning as their main job.

I wonder if there are jobs for Backend developers that are more climate friendly somehow.

That could be either working on something climate protection related or working in such a way, that you are not a part of the problem or part of the landscape but part of the solution.

Is there anybody out there that has such a job?

I wonder if working in IT can be at all sustainable to be honest.

@andrej I’ve also been thinking about that quite a bit, and I’d say almost all jobs in IT will require some mental gymnastics to justify.

The only exceptions, I think, would be about building the infrastructure to support all the transformations we know are necessary to move to sustainability. And even then, it would have to be a non-profit endeavour (think Migros), and would need a culture of humility and tech-as-a-servant rather then the usual tech-as-king

@andrej also, the exceptions scenario only applies if you subscribe to a high tech version of sustainability. I personally tend to lean that way, but suspect there are also good arguments against it.
