Anyone got experience with or can relate to the following?
I’ve lately been itching to go back to uni, to the point where it’s driving me a bit nuts. Since the opportunity cost of a move like that would be quite high, I’ve been trying to figure out what I’m really looking for here.
I think it’s the idea of having learning as a job again for a while, instead of having to get my learning in on the side and always in a rush. Plus, having peers to talk to who also have learning as their main job.
@li5a Oh I relate to that hard. If I could have I would probably have stayed at university in some form or other basically my whole life, at least part-time. I find it hard to get motivated for anything that does not have "learn stuff" as one of or the primary driver. Which also means that as soon as I can reliably do something/know my shit I loose interest 😅
@playinprogress@li5a Oh dear, yes. I feel the both of you. Also, so many interesting topics to learn more about. And with a job an children and don't even have the time to do learning as a side thing really. I only have the energy to watch SciShow and other edu channels on YT when I'm done with all my responsibilities for the day. I really feel stupider, since I became a working mom. I hate not having the time to read, wonder and marvel about interesting stuff.
@playinprogress amen on that last point. which leads to certain challenges in the “gainful employment” department.
Soooo… have you found a way to resolve that for yourself? 😬
@playinprogress@li5a I'm starting something new about every 10 years. I was an athlete as a child, then a musician as a teen and young adult, then a scientist as a young adult, then an employee, then a mother, then a unionist. It's soon time to be a gardener more and an employee less.
After about 10 years +/- I have played the game through and then my interests shift slowly towards something else that I focus on and become really, really good at.
@levampyre@playinprogress@li5a I've noticed a similar pattern, although it's more of a 7 year cycle for me :) I remember very significant developments in 2001-2008-2015-2022-… so I guess interesting things are in the cards for 2029, then?! 😅
