If we were seriously concerned with people having biological advantages over others in sport, we would have height and weight based categories, rather than gender based. Or heart size, lung capacity, foot size. Gender is arbitrary.

Hey, people with android phones, what format does the health and fitness data come in if you download it? can you please tell me the brand of phone and the file extension of the download(s)? If you’re super keen, are you willing to share the data? I want to write something about the accessibility of the data.

@KathyReid thank you so much!

autoscaling graphs have set the cause of data literacy back decades.

lindamciver,
@lindamciver@aus.social avatar

@jonoabroad no, autoscaled axes. So that you can’t compare different graphs, and every change looks huge

Like all cormorants, pelagic cormorants are extraordinary birds up when seen up close.

@ct_bergstrom extraordinary pic! I follow for your bullshit calling, but the birds are a fabulous bonus.

labor: we’re going to do just enough to say we’re doing something, but not enough to make any real difference.

greens: how about we do enough to actually solve the problem?

rusted ons: omg the greens are such wreckers. look at them siding with the lnp!

so so tired of this crap

This was a fascinating, illuminating, and enraging conversation with Dr Richard Denniss, Executive Director of The Australia Institute, and Professor Margaret Hellard, Deputy Director of the Burnet Institute, about why we're not collecting covid data, and why it matters. This one is really important, so please listen, and share.

RD:"Why aren't we collecting the data? Because they don't want to admit failure. They don't want to make it easy for me to tell you what the cost to GDP of this heroic approach to covid has been."

I can’t really bend at the moment, so when I drop something I need someone to pick it up for me, which results in people reaching for the floor at my feet. Just realised I have missed countless opportunities to declaim “Bow before me, peasant!”… though that might diminish the number of people prepared to help me, I suppose…

All tech needs a “Not today, Satan” button for when you need it to stop whatever it’s about to do. Wants to show you photos of traumatic memories? Not today, Satan! Going to direct you through a complicated back route with windy single lane country roads to avoid 5 minutes of congestion? Not today, Satan! Reminding you about that difficult email you haven’t replied to yet? Not today, Satan!

Emmsie’s vet texts both Andrew and I with appointment reminders and things. Something a lot of kid-related organisations don’t seem able to do. It’s a small thing but makes a surprisingly big difference! Sometimes there is more than one contact person! why is this so difficult for systems to comprehend??
