Thinking about making a split keyboard. I don't really have the skills to design one so I'll just get something from online, but I think they're really cool nonetheless.

Anyone have any recommendations of designs?

max213,

@mightyspaceman Any keyboard's a split keyboard if you're willing to solder all the traces back together.

This morning I've basically been going down a deep rabbithole around the recent supposed MH370 footage.

For those who don't know (it's not prevalent in major news as of now) there's been some footage from 2014 which has been dug up and connected to the disappearance of the now almost legendary Malaysian Airlines flight 370.

The footage consists of two videos uploaded to a now removed youtube account. The first depicts supposed FLIR footage from a surveillance UAV of a Boeing-777 being surrounded by a set of 3 orbs, then 'teleported' or 'vaporized' from view. The second shows a satellite view of the same thing.

Now, before I continue, let me get something straight. While the concept of UAPs/UFOs intrigue me, I'm not...ya know...one of those types. I like to look at these phenomena not because I want to believe that aliens are among us and visiting earth, but because there IS something there and it's interesting whatever it turns out to be. Still, I take everything with a grain of salt, and that's part of the fun.

Anyway. There's a big discussion going on about the footage on r/UFOs - now, most of the time about half of that subreddit is, once again...that type. But with this there's been a lot of amazingly in-depth discussions and aviation experts coming forth, and something about these videos is different. Everything seems to match up with actual aviation reports, and the video itself is impeccable for it's time. If this where to be a hoax, the amount of work required for the attention to detail here would take an entire team of filmaking crew, even today. The drone rocks in the wake of the plane, the engine heating covers the bottom of the aircraft, the patterns of the orbs match up with the satellite footage.

And it lines up with the aviation report for the flight. Multiple radars detected a set of 3 anomolous 'blips' alongside the aircraft, as well as the plane itself performing manuvers that aren't even possible during a nosedive. Nearing the end of radar coverage, the plane's transponder was shut off, leaving it only detectable through active radar. 37 seconds later, radar contact was lost. This 37 second period lines up perfectly with the time the orbs appeared until the 'teleport'

Once again, take this all with a grain of salt. It could still just be an elaborate hoax. But I'm on the fence here.

This cat endorses the fediverse and dislikes Twitter’s name and logo, branding it as false advertising - “I wanted to eat the bird, but I discovered it’s not real. To add insult to injury it once had a dog as it’s logo.”

Tried prime yesterday. It's terrible. Had the orange one and it just tastes like those hydration icy poles for when you're sick.

max213,

@mightyspaceman probably because it's a hydration drink... also, you might have enjoyed it more if you were a 12-year old who was a Logan Paul stan.

I have a school project due tomorrow involving controlling a heater to heat a room based on electricity prices/inside temp

I was originally going to use a switching mechanism to actuate the switch using a stepper motor but...that did not work. And there is no time left to get it working.

So I need to improvise to get it working...and I know exactly how to do it, it's just going outside the rules a bit. Instead of flipping a switch on the heater, I want to use a relay to directly control the input current. However, I've never worked with mains voltage (I know how it works, but still) and we were told not to do anything with it when the project started.

Do you think it's worth going out and buying a relay, then making an ESP-controlled power socket?

max213,

@mightyspaceman I was looking at a meross plug - I’m pretty sure it works with home assistant

max213,

@mightyspaceman @mightyspaceman trust me - it gets very sketchy doing “high voltage” stuff. It can invalidate insurance and stuff (if it - for example - causes a fire). If you must though it should be down in a clear space (no fire fuel) and not used as a permanent solution. But it probably won’t be accepted if it uses high voltage.

Someone somewhere is very bothered by this.

max213,

@mightyspaceman it is Turing complete (not that that’s an entirely correct test). I think it’s widely considered a programming language.

Yeah right

max213,

@mightyspaceman I mean, mint is just a fork of Ubuntu so it’s not impossible
