mesamunefire,

I’ve had a terrible time with them. The laptops all have the same issue with the hinges.

Switch 2 would arrive in the second half of 2024 and development kits are already out (gamerkick.com)

The successor to Nintendo Switch named Switch 2 will continue to be a hybrid console that can be played on TV and in portable mode, it will be launched without an OLED screen (it will have an LCD) and it will have cartridges/cards for physical games , according to various sources. Anonymous to VGC, where they say that the device...

mesamunefire,

Heck, with yuzu it did replace the switch.

I have all my switch, steam, itch.io, gog, ect…all in one console.

mesamunefire,

I can’t wait to get one in the us soon. But I’ll hang onto my current phone for as long as I can before hand. Best way to conserve is to use what you have ATM.

What are you Reading? (August 2023) (lemmy.world)

I’ve put together a collage of some books from last months What are you Reading? post. It’s mostly random, but the more discussion something gets the more it stands out to me. Going forward I’m going to make a new post every month to talk about what people are reading....

mesamunefire,

I have a collection of about 60 ish rss feeds on my NextCloud instance. Some that come to mind:

  1. Hackaday-It’s great but might take over your feed.
  2. n-o-d-e.net/rss/rss.xml node is awesome. Lots of great designs and tech related content.
  3. charity.wtf has a good feed. Lots of great software developer and project management articles.

I have a lot more but I’m on my phone.

/r/place: Our beautiful lemmy banner above the 3rd party app protest has been wiped out, please help us rebuild from the right at 38,-25 (lemmy.world)

xQc came and totally wiped us out. We have a lot of work in front of us and we are a bit too small a team to hold this space if someone decides to take it from us. I’m really proud of how well we’ve been able to advertise Lemmy and fuck things up with our allies in Fuck Spez and Black Company (doing the 3rd party apps...

mesamunefire,

Can’t we just make our own place? Like a permanent one that’s better than Reddits?

What are some good quality PeerTube (or similar) sites you enjoy?

I’ve been a big YouTube watcher for years, but am getting more and more dissatisfied with it. Sites like Invidious are great, but still just front-ends for YouTube. I’m interested in moving more to sites like PeerTube, but when I last checked them out years ago there either wasn’t much content yet or I didn’t know how to...

mesamunefire,

Tilvids is my favorite instance. Really high quality stuff is hosted there.

mesamunefire,

There’s sites that do it. Heck we could probably do it just by spamming a link.

mesamunefire,

There are websites that do what place does but better. Maybe we should just partner with one and have our own.

With obligatory blackjack and hookers.

Framework Laptop 16: our exclusive hands-on - theverge.com (www.theverge.com)

“Reviews of the original Framework Laptop 13 were a little skeptical; my colleague Monica repeatedly pointed out that an upgradable laptop’s value “hinges on future support.” But in 2022, her headline was “promises kept.” And this year, as Framework shipped its third set of CPU upgrades for the Framework 13 while...

mesamunefire,

Same. We had three developers try to make it work for a local makerspace and we failed. The default instructions are too complex ATM. I want to make it work sometime but that experience makes me want to wait. I only have so many weekends.

IRC is still a thing.

mesamunefire,

Yep super easy. And if you had a third party client it’s even easier for others.

mesamunefire,

I had a very similar reaction. It’s just funny that a proton fix was because of this game haha.

What Are Your Favorite SBCs (Single Board Computers), Why, and How Did You Get Into Them?

Like most people, I entered COVID as a normal hobby geek with a Linux server I played around with and a healthy hardware habit with a side of home automation and DD-WRT. I emerged from COVID enrolled in college, now with two servers (one new build, one rebuilt from my first one), two Pi, multiple instances of Home Assistant (one...

mesamunefire,

I was lucky enough to get a 4 before the supply issues. I wish I could get any replacements.

Nowadays I just buy thin clients and pay the 40-50$ premium for projects. Better then than waiting for a pi.

Have you ever dumped a job right after youve been hired?

Hey, so i just fucking quit my new job rn. I got offered something better last minute but didn’t wanna be a dick and cancel on them at the last minute, so I went through with it anyways and then QUIT RIGHT AFTER THEY HIRED ME LMFAO. It felt so good man, total payback for all those times I wasted my time interviewing only to...

mesamunefire,

Just did. I got a remote job (as in it’s in the signed contract that I’m a remote worker). I was then told day 1 that the job is hybrid and that I was expected to be in the office 3 days a week. Then last week, when I took my first day remote, I was pulled into a meeting asking where I was. I was then I informed that my bosses boss had decided we were full on prem, which is news to me. Made me very angry how many times they changed my employment status within my first couple of weeks at this place.

I gave them my two week notice a couple of days ago. The feedback I got was they thought it wasn’t a big deal. I told them at no point did they ask what my preference was. And that they advertised a remote job.

I’ll be starting my new job in another week and that is an actual fully remote job. I hear they are going to lose at least one more person soon because of all these changes.

mesamunefire,

You can also subscribe to communities on lemmy to mastodon, subscribe to peertube channels, and via versa. It’s pretty cool!
