bit of a hot take maybe but as someone who has been suicidal and whose friends and partners all have been down there, i strongly believe it should be okay to talk openly about suicide and suicidal ideation without hiding it behind CWs

is it unpleasant? does it trigger emotional flashbacks for some people? is it not what you come to fedi for? maybe. but being left alone with these thoughts is far, far worse. if you can’t deal with it, block people who don’t curate their public posts so they’re more palatable to you. we’re human beings here, and humans are not a fucking buffet where you only accept the parts that you like.

last i heard mastodon has not implemented quotas for remote media, and requires you to run a command line tool that purges stuff and takes for-fucking-ever to do it, all while the backend is completely unaware of it and won’t refetch previously cached media so it’ll just 404 on all the profile pics you’ve inadvertently deleted
