    The only feature that matters for any social media experience is the people who are on it. I'm amazed at how many technology leaders forget this and get distracted by the underlying tech, protocols, features, etc.

    Elon is a great example. He thinks he bought a platform. But what he really bought was a community. And of the two, the community has degraded far more than the platform.

    One of the things that quickly becomes apparent as you use is just how much work has gone into making a full function experience over the years.

    It's also a good reminder of how much there is still left to build for any federated social media experience to become truly mainstream.

    I don't think it's wrong for other Fediverse projects, besides Mastodon, to exist.

    Especially since so many of them predate Mastodon.

    , which is what is based off, predates Mastodon by two years!

    Friendica started in 2010.

    GNU Social is even older.

    It's wild to me that so many folks believe Mastodon = Fediverse.

    @atomicpoet I completely agree. I think this applies to Bluesky as well, even though it uses a different protocol at the moment, it is built with the same federation first principles as other projects in the fediverse. The big picture IMO is federation vs walled gardens, not project A vs project B.
