@stroughtonsmith@WarnerCrocker I suspect that Apple is going to make their upcoming new Siri a subscription service, like all the other LLMs. Basic Siri will be free but constantly harangue people with, "I'm sorry. That answer is only available via subscription." Don't underestimate Cook's greed. Or they might include say 3 months free to get people addicted and then harvest subscriptions.
And BAM! You're correct about the Pin being a phone accessory. They are on the wrong path.
🚨 With Apple telegraphing a big LLM-based AI push for this year's iOS release, and the rumors to back that up, if you haven't already started planning where and how to integrate this into your apps, now might be the time!
Where could you make use of summarization, deep content analysis, universal translator features, recommendation engines, text and code generation, or hardware-accelerated fuzzy logic, in your apps?
When Apple remembers to make new iPads again (any day now.), one thing I'd really like to see is an end to the baby apps. I don't want a stripped-down, half-assed 'iPad experience’ for anything. It's been fourteen years and I'm so over it. Give me real desktop-class apps across iPadOS and visionOS, feature for feature, that can scale all the way up to power a 5K External Display or spatial computing workstation.
A reorderable toolbar doesn't make for a 'desktop-class app’.
@stroughtonsmith Requests like that are killing the iPad. It was meant to be a leisure computer, not an inadequate Microsoft Surface tablet competitor.
@stroughtonsmith@WarnerCrocker I'm not understanding something about the Vision Pro. How are all these people able to walk anywhere with it? I thought it needed WiFi.
I barely understand what gaussian splatting is, but it seems like it's going to be a big deal. How cool would it be to take a completely photorealistic 3D capture of places you've been, with 'room tone' audio, to use as an Environment in visionOS?
How transformative could it be to Apple Maps' 3D or street view?
Honest thought that has been nagging me for a while now: do I ever buy another iPad Pro now that Vision Pro exists? Especially with an incoming price hike, as rumored, that might bring the two product lines much closer in price. A MacBook Air with Mac Virtual Display in visionOS provides that escape hatch that gives me everything iPad never did, and visionOS effectively runs all the same software as iPad. Is direct touch really that important to me if I'm not drawing with a Pencil?
@stroughtonsmith mini 7 rumor vids on YouTube. Any word that Apple will bring it back 4:3 aspect ratio? Only new thing is trying to get rid of effin jelly scroll.
