Apparently 7s is both my most winning tile and my most losing tile. Not sure what to make of this information.

Deal-in(s) with the following tile is most common: 7 sou After calling Riichi, there are 322 time(s) Master couldn't win back the Riichi bet...

I have a sort of essay idea in my mind. In video form it might be titled something like “You don’t actually want a rating system” and the thumbnail would maybe be a “most people rejected his message” meme with the message being a number with an error value like you’d find on a Glicko-2 system like ratingupdate or Pokemon Showdown! As part of this, I feel like it would be interesting to get perspectives on why various places rejected Glicko-2, usually in favour of Elo. I know chess has stuck with Elo (despite Glicko being designed for chess lol) and PS! has Glicko ratings but uses Elo for ladder rankings. And one of PS!’s predecessors, Shoddy Battle, was the original Pokémon simulator to use Glicko-2. There might be a lot of potential there.

I don’t really think I’m cut out to be anything like a regular blogger or video essayist, though.

Glicko is based on the Elo formula, but modifies it from a single Rating to Rating +/- Confidence Interval. Whenever a result was expected - the higher rated player won - the CI narrows, while an unexpected result widens the CI. R will move faster if the CI is wide, trying to pin down where you belong, until expected results start to narrow it again.

Glicko-2 actually adds a third variable to the formula called Volatility, but I’m not quite sure how that one works tbh.

Woke up and checked Whale Cup standings to find out I’ve fallen all the way down to . Top 128 advance, so uh oh.

It’s fine, I’ll just Haitei a Baiman in South 4 to save my placement.

This should be a very safe buffer with less than 2 hours before qualifiers end.

It’s sum of best consecutive 5 games, and I’m at 3/2/1/3/1, so I’m still tempted to try to bump off that 3rd with one more game. But I probably don’t need to, and I don’t know if I even have the stamina.

God help me I may go for it anyway.

Brought my Steam Deck to the local, managed to rope someone into Mega Knockdown. They picked it up fast, might have to be afraid of an up-and-coming new Billy main.

New Nidra bug was found, she’s banned again. Lv1->Lv2 on block puts her in a projectile invulnerable state which can potentially last the entire round, only ends if she does Moon stance B.

Currently sitting at on Whale Cup mahjong qualifiers, top 64 advance. May or may not be safe, still time for people to overtake me. Wondering if it’s worth trying to continue grinding to improve my score, but it’s proving difficult to beat my +39 so far.

Who put this, Splatfest, and UNI2 locals all on the same weekend?

Tourney ruleset has all the UI helpers disabled. That’s functionally the same as playing offline, so I ought to be used to this. But I’m not used to both that and a bullet timer keeping me from scanning the pond when I need a moment. It’s so much pressure!

missingno,
@missingno@fgc.network avatar

Oh, we got enough entrants to bump it up to top 128 advance, so I’m totally safe now.
