Last week published their second DSA Transparency Report. https://www.tiktok.com/transparency/en/dsa-transparency/ The first one covered just one month (09/23) the second Oct-Dec 2023. But now that there are two reports we can compare some numbers.

It seems that, despite the increasing numbers of monthly active users (+6.4M) the number of human moderators speaking many European languages decreased.

I think, that's concerning given that we have elections upcoming that require specific knowledge of each country.

Screenshot showing the number of users in the two last transparency reports. Showing an increase of 6M overall.

@mozilla and @checkfirst analyzed the ad transparency databases the big platforms now offer (because of the )

Results are mixed and non of the transparency databases is as helpful as it could be:

I reviewed the report and especially the TikTok part. I can recommend reading it :awesome:

ad library DSA compliance follow-up: ~6% of deleted ads cite an expired ad authorization. I'm not sure this is covered as a reason to delete ads as described in Art 39(3) DSA.

Ad authorization, a feature to control video promotion, can be manually revoked or set to expire.
To me this has the potential to undermine transparency if it is misused to trigger ad removal.

ATM around 80k ads, with >1K impressions have been removed citing expired authorization.

The Guardian reports that TikTok is applying different rules for accounts of companies, like Amazon, that spend a lot of advertising money on the platform.
