NPR does maintain a number of good RSS feeds ( feeds.npr.org ), which are being simulcasted onto Mastodon by press.coop. They are doing this for a ton of news organizations: press.coop/directory

Reportedly the TV series Moonlighting is available to stream on Hulu soon. Someone elsewhere posted their favorite bit of banter from the show:

Security Officer : I’m sorry, but you’re not on the guest list.

David Addison : That’s because we’re not guests. We’re looking for a man with a mole on his nose.

Security Officer : A mole on his nose?

Maddie Hayes : A mole on his nose.

Security Officer : [to Maddie] What kind of clothes?

Maddie Hayes : [to David] What kind of clothes?

David Addison : What kind of clothes do you suppose?

Security Officer : What kind of clothes do I suppose would be worn by a man with a mole on his nose? Who knows?

David Addison : Did I happen to mention, did I bother to disclose, that this man that we’re seeking with the mole on his nose? I’m not sure of his clothes or anything else, except he’s Chinese, a big clue by itself.

Maddie Hayes : How do you do that?

David Addison : Gotta read a lot of Dr. Seuss.

Security Officer : I’m sorry to say, I’m sad to report, I haven’t seen anyone at all of that sort. Not a man who’s Chinese with a mole on his nose with some kind of clothes that you can’t suppose. So get away from this door and get out of this place, or I’ll have to hurt you - put my foot in your face.

What are people using to access Lemmy using a desktop, what are the preferred apps or clients that you use on either Mac or Windows.

There are plenty of third party apps for Lemmy on Android/iPhone or Web, but are there any decent apps built for desktop use? Is it just simply a matter of relying on a web interface currently, or are there any well rounded apps out there that are worth mentioning.

Same here.

But as a user of Firefox on mobile, I’m running into a weird persistent issue around the back button and post listings on pages beyond the first page. Sometimes, when I click into either the comments of a post or the post itself, when I click the ‘back’ button to return to the post list, sometimes I will end up on the previous page of search results (as though I pressed the back button twice).

Reloading the page seems to fix the problem (showing me the post list page that I expect), but it’s still weird.

Have you seen this?

  • it’s so shaped
  • one of the most animals

If I had to pick a name for this kind of slang/phrasing, I think it would be something like “superlative trunc”, as in a truncated superlative (biggest, smallest, oldest, richest, tastiest, etc).

I have a friend who suddenly realized they had a habit of blowing on very cold bites of food (like ice cream) as though it was something too hot to eat. They rationalized this as needing to do it for any food that was “too temperature.”

Any national-stage politician who isn’t, at the very least, simulcasting their Twitter/X posts to a fediverse account is actively backing (and consequently diminishing alternatives to) a fascist-controlled megaphone.

If he wants me to give a shit about what he has to say, he’ll need to make the effort to find different coms channels through which to do it.

Enhance your calm: Demolition Man turns 30 | The film remains an under-appreciated gem of ‘90s comedy/action flicks (arstechnica.com)

Thirty years ago today, Demolition Man first hit theaters, pitting Sylvester Stallone against Wesley Snipes in a crime-free but killjoy future where even minor vices have been declared illegal. The passage of time hasn’t quite elevated this sci-fi action comedy to the legendary status of Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, but it’s...

No shit… these are like old Chuck Norris facts:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagoras

the priest of Apollo gave Pythagoras a magic arrow, which he used to fly over long distances and perform ritual purifications

A fragment from Aristotle records that, when a deadly snake bit Pythagoras, he bit it back and killed it.

he once convinced a notoriously destructive bear to swear that it would never harm a living thing again, and that the bear kept its word

Consumer Reports created an iOS and Android app that collects your account information for a bunch of businesses and provides the option of sending “do not sell” requests to them en-mass. It also helps you delete unwanted accounts and stay up to date on which businesses are doing what with your data.

Not bad, but it all depends on how much you trust Consumer Reports. It appears they have a fairly good reputation as a consumer advocacy non-profit, but I didn’t do much deep dive research.

Ideally, this is something FTC would have a hand in for consumers in the United States – improving EULA comprehension. I can imagine a world where businesses and applications have EULAs with ESRB-like ratings or tags: “location data”, “purchase history”, “3rd party data exports”, “X year retention” to show what you’re agreeing to. I’d love to brainstorm on how else that could change.

Seattle resident here and ex-Amazon employee. Amazon has security staff (previously Securitas aka: Pinkertons) at all building badge entry points who specifically monitor for that kind of thing.

Also, it’s hard for me to believe that Amazon was ever NOT monitoring, measuring and aggregating employee badge swipe data. That’s far too useful a data point on individual employee behavior to leave it on the table. And there’s zero obligation to either the public or Amazon’s employees to disclose that they’re doing it.
