One of the local arms of massive grocery conglomerate Kroger (Fred Meyer) has recently started doing that Costco-style thing where an employee is stationed at the exit to scribble on your receipt with a highlighter, ostensibly to make sure you actually bought that cart full of bagged groceries.

I absolutely hate this.

As a scary looking youth, I decided I didn't consent to be treated as a criminal by default, and would simply say no and walk out when Best Buy was doing that.

Fred Meyer has taken it a step further, though. Now they have signs up at the exit saying you must show your receipt to get out, which makes it seem pretty official.

My take is you should put those signs on the outside of the store so people can either consent to being treated as a criminal before it's too late or say fuck off and go somewhere else.

When walking into the wind, Maeby's ears generate lift.

A side view of my beagle / chihuahua / dachshund walking at a brisk pace on a leash. She's facing directly into the wind, which is turning her ears into little wings on the side of her head. Normally they hang downward, but now they're straight out the side like the wings of a gang glider. Gusts occasionally lift them even higher. The dog's tongue is hanging outside of its mouth, but it is not generating lift.

I went through two battery charges today with the OneWheel. I've been working on trying to intentionally defeat the balance and power to spin around on the edge of the wheel to pirouette like a figure skater.

I can pretty consistently spin 180 degrees and then ride off the way I came, but am hoping to either get all the way around or even have a stable continuous spin.

I can spin 3 or 4 times in one motion, but it's more like riding around a bunch of 1 foot diameter circles.

I had a couple low-speed spinning falls, resulting in the biggest contusion I've ever seen. I have two elbows on my right arm, and the actual elbow is barely visible because of the giant false elbow contusion next to it.

I think it's cool that James Hetfield is talking about his issues with anxiety, but I worry that people who don't understand will hear his "my guitar neck is made of rubber" and "my guitar cord isn't long enough for me to get to the microphone" anxiety dreams stories and just think it's funny.

Ordering at the liegewaffel place, the song playing aloud ended and then "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" came on. Mid-sentence, the new guy taking my order turned around and said, "Tears for Fears again?"

His coworker told him that sometimes Spotify just repeats a lot of the same songs.

I love that this dude isn't even 3 hours into his first shift and made them change the playlist.

It probably felt like a victory, but then Morrissey came on and we all lost.

For instance: Earth Wind and Fire's September

Well, imagine that, but with your ears instead of your eyes. That's what ketamine sounds like. That video effect, but also with the worst tinnitus in the world. (But in a good way.)

What is that old-school video effect that was used in a lot of early music videos, where something is shot in front of a dark background and then sort of repeated forever kind of like the "infinity hallway" effect you get by standing between two mirrors?

I'd be happy even with just an example of one, but would love to know how it worked.
