offspec,

A friend switched to Linux yesterday on a new build and grabbed the kde spin of fedora at my recommendation. Fedora 40 dropped x11 on kde so there’s been a good bit more hassle getting things working than there should have been. Hopefully developers move fast on support.

offspec,

Discord screen share isn’t working, I think screen recording wasn’t working, she had some issues getting steam to not crash. We both use input leap at work so waiting until 6.1 for that support to hit. Just a bit annoying to get rug pulled. We both use fedora 38 on our work machines so there was an expectation that things would work the same, I think it’s overall a good change in the long run, but in the moment it’s very disruptive.

offspec,

Yeah, I directed her to vesktop but lately the video streams on vesktop have been really choppy. I use it on arch to mixed results.

offspec,

Actually, I didn’t know that and figured it out yesterday. Thanks for the tip!

offspec,

It was mostly just a skill issue, I don’t know how anyone uses developer tools on Windows. Building tool chains on Linux just make sense.

offspec,

Just waiting on kde 6.1 for remote input so input leap can work

offspec,

My keyboard shortcuts have been getting reset on every boot, really annoying

offspec,

There’s an open report, no need to double dip

offspec,

I think Libre in general is an awkward sound for me

offspec,

I’ve not heard it pronounced, but it seems some here are verbalizing it as lee-bruh. In my head it’s always been lee-bree which is just an awkward pair of syllables.

offspec,

I went to an elementary school in California that was using Linux laptops circa ~2008, I have find memories of playing Super Tux after finishing my classwork.

As a linux user, do you know about/use openwrt?

I have many nerdy friends who have been Linux users for ages. But most of them don’t know such a thing as Openwrt exists or have never bothered to give it a try. It’s a very fun piece of software to play with and can be extremely useful for routing traffic. Wondering why it isn’t more popular/widely used.

offspec,

I actually took some older now somewhat defunct google wifi pucks and got them all set up on openwrt not too long ago. Really enjoy having them on something with a dedicated web UI and perfectly nerdy

I would recommend obs-livesplit-one

discord.com/invite/nh2dZMg7

offspec,

No, it’s open source and on GitHub, that’s just the best resource for knowledge on getting it and associated tools running well on Linux.

offspec,

I’m excited to give it an honest try as soon as it implements libei

offspec,

Ah, looks like KHotkeys got discontinued so a bunch of my keyboard shortcuts no longer work, that’s a bummer.

offspec,

Yeah that was my source as well, seems reasonable but it’s a bit annoying I can no longer have named groups of shortcuts

offspec,

This is also what I would recommend and is most similar to the windows experience

offspec,
  1. Your home partition can be anywhere, I would recommend copying the files to your new drive and adding a /home mountpoint flag in the kde partition manager.
  2. See above
  3. The newest hotness is something like btrfs and pooling drives together under the same mountpoint. Otherwise just do what you were planning, a big root partition and a 1TiB home partition.
  4. Probably related to nouveau drivers
  5. rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA
offspec,

I have to ssh in to arbitrary systems often and Kitty seemed to have compatibility issues, which I still don’t grok but plainly can’t use

offspec,

I guess my issue is that these are production machines that aren’t really meant to be mutated and I’m generally just pulling diagnostic data off of. Often I’m ssh’d in to a hub machine and jumping in to edge devices, so I couldn’t run ssh kitten if I wanted to. I think I’m probably an edge case, but it is very frustrating.

offspec,

How does lemmy run for you? I get weird blocks of bad gateway every once in a while

offspec,

Not sure if I totally grok what you’re asking but try Ctrl+v to enter visual block mode or whatever it’s called, navigate down to the line you want to go through, hit Shift+I, type in your junk, then hit escape.

how to set up sonarr/radarr and qbittorrent to avoid duplicate files

Hello! I set up jellyfin+sonarr+radarr+prowlarr+qbittorrent in my home server, and it all works well. the only problem is that I’m storing my files on a usb HDD with exFAT filesystem, and it does not support (AFAIK) hardlinks. due to this, sonarr/radarr are copying the files from the download folder (on the internal SSD with...

offspec,

Yeah the important thing is it’s inclusive or, both rules can be active simultaneously
