It’s blackberry season. Get on out to them hedges. Our 13-year-old will make muffins with these (and I’ll just eat the rest).

oisinmcgann,

@shezza_t That sounds lovely, but also like . . . work. And I'd be the only one in the house who'd drink it.

oisinmcgann,

@JulietEMcKenna Impressive!

oisinmcgann,

@stephenwhq @JulietEMcKenna You two are putting us to shame.

Getting a real vibe of this off the news lately. I don't know what it's going to take for society to realize where we are.

This cartoon is from a climate change creative writing resource I've produced with Poetry Ireland and Green-Schools that'll be released next month.

‘Huge cultural movement’? The entire purpose of image generators is mass production, which will devalue actual art skills and experience, while having all the cultural impact of the invention of the photocopier.

oisinmcgann,

@kevinteljeur So I’m hearing! The ‘Google Glass in the shower’ selfie has apparently gone down in history.

oisinmcgann,

@JimBliss I was an enthusiastic user of the photocopier in the olden days, but it was used to convey art, not replace it.

Hey, their faces are on the web. That means we can do whatever we want with their faces, right? I mean, to train our brains like AI.

WHATEVER WE WANT.

Right?

oisinmcgann,

@davey_cakes I’m sorry, it’s not a precision process. It’s all or nothing.

oisinmcgann,

@philo Soon, we will be generated with AI.

Irish Weather: ‘So, it’s going to be hot.’
Me: ‘OK.’
IW: ‘Really hot. You won’t believe it’s like this in September.’
Me: ‘Understood.’
IW: ‘If you go out, it could burn ya.’
Me: ‘Right. Got it.’
IW: ‘A heatwave.’
Me: ‘OK.’

Me: ‘Of course.’

'Artists should embrace AI, it's the tool of the future.'

I've spent my career adapting to new technologies, but for me, placing an order for an image on a computer is like telling a footballer they won a match, not by playing it, but because the other team never showed up.

Not the life I want.

Okay, I'm going to show my age here. I'm working on an article and was reminded of when we used to use these. Who knows what they are, what they're for and how they're used?

oisinmcgann,

@JoBlakely Yep!

oisinmcgann,

@ronanmcd Loved those books.

oisinmcgann,

@TheDailyBurble Oh, yeah.

oisinmcgann,

@barcode The therapy you’d need after you run out of a specific letter?

oisinmcgann,

@DaraghOBrien An alternative application, to be sure.

oisinmcgann,

@cianhan I can neither confirm nor deny that they were occasionally used to fake ID cards.

oisinmcgann,

@barcode Ah. I’ve never seen their name written down!

I've just had to apply for Garda Vetting AGAIN, which requires you to fill out every address you've had since birth (I've had fourteen). Each vetting can only apply to ONE organization, a serious pain for freelancers, who can't get themselves vetted and have to work with numerous organizations in any given year. I've written about the whole process here:

oisinmcgann,

@rotan It's an issue that's constantly being raised. Ironically, part of the issue is that they can't retain information, because of data rights, but they need to do something. The tax clearance cert can apply for years, but can be withdrawn at any time. Something like that might work.

oisinmcgann,

@rotan This has all been looked into, so I presume there's a reason they haven't adopted that. It would certainly be a honeypot for hackers.

oisinmcgann,

@ColmDonoghue @niamhgarvey There's a certain amount of autofill, but I don't honestly know if that's my Mac or their system. It's still only one line at a time. Filling in everything from just the date would require them to hold your information as formatted, which they can't do at the moment.

oisinmcgann,

@rotan Yes, that's pretty much how the tax clearance cert works. It can be checked by anyone you give the number too and can be withdrawn. I don't see why they can't do something like that. In Australia, they have an ID card for this.
