I reckon some channel will show Independence Day as normal, and then show V for Vendetta after the polls close
(UK election 4th July)

I think I just found a unused in the Xserver since ~1996.

@emf 's health page is very boring; good covid etc rules, sensible camping rules - but no mention of RF burns, radiation exposure or welding accidents - this place sounds way more boring than the people who seem to be going to it.
(I'm not attending, but it does sound fun)

I baked a Banana bread for the first time earlier in the week. Very nice; seems to get more bananay over time. Lovely bananay burps.. 🍌

(I didn't bother with the drizzle and banana chips on the top)

wth does AEG want £51 for a dryer filter that consists of ~3 pieces of plastic held together with a mesh.
(And that's cheaper than 3rd party supplier)

I've just posted a pretty long request for thoughts on dead code hunting in - all thoughts welcome;

OK, just pushed my ppscsi set to github (since that's where I forked the previous version from).

Inside the front cover of 'The Transmitting licence' from June 1946; setting out the rules now that things were just starting up again after the end of WW2.

Disappointingly some of the new Bee busses are still combustion engine (SK24 plates, so actually new, not just repaint).
Sigh.

OK, xsane sees my scanner, and had a go at getting a preview and a scan; hmm - I'm losing a bunch of data somewhere, so only getting a few stripes out; (and a bunch of SCSI errors...); I'm also down at one of the slower paralle port modes and turning DMA off; still progress, first time it's tried to scan in ~15 years I guess.

I wonder what electricity screwup actually happened at the new Co-op Live venue; they're cancelling shows due to saying 'It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind'

I'm reading 'Audio' by F.A.Wilson, a Babani paperback in their range of technical books. I was expecting it to be on the electronics of audio (amps etc) but while it does eventually get to that, so far it's got a lot of stuff about the physics in curious detail; things like limits of hearing (phon and sone measurements), construction of microphones and speakers (even down to the types of chemistry in piezo crystals). Fun.
(One oddity is it spells words like 'connection' as 'connexion')

This Rolson magnifying visor thing works OK; it's got 1/1.5/2.0/2.5/3.5x interchangable lenses and a damn bright LED light. The 3.5x is enough for me able to see even really small pads (field of view is small of course, but that's neck swivelling with these); I can get a loupe to work with them as well to look at the state of a pad.

I've given up on wrapping wire around tips and gone for some very very pointy toys. The left most is a 0.12mm conical
(All for Antex, for 2 different models)

I'm failing trying mitxela's trick of wrapping a wire around an ironbit for SMD soldering, any one got any ideas? This is a traditional 25W Antex iron it's wrapped on, but it's not getting hot enough on the wire, it boils off flux, melts low-melting point paste but doesn't do anything to existing components:

The util-linux wall bug (CVE-2024-28085) takes me back to my first Unix at college in ~1989 as we played with escape codes on each others VT100's and had escape codes to race the lights on them.

Both Bard and ChatGPT 3.5 understand that 'burning the midnight oil' is an expression and not literal; however if you ask them whether it's safe to do it in an area with a flammable substance they both say it isn't.

(Actually I was looking for a 25-25 m-f which I must have somewhere, maybe if I can find my breakout box it'll be connected to it...)

DMARC people: How do you find mailing lists work for you? My DMARC is generally OK, but I get lots of fails to kernel or qemu-devel mailing lists; how is this supposed to work?

I don't get compiler undefined-behaviour optimisations; in the crazy cases why don't they compile to an assert rather than something insane?

Oh there's an error message of the day; 'device /dev/dri/renderD128 (amdgpu) is not compatible with turnip'

Well that's going to take some digging; I've not had an incompatible turnip before...
