Okay I think today I'm going to write a piece about how the mayor of Miami running for president isn't what you think it is in no small part because he's not really the mayor of Miami. Technically, yes he is the mayor of a city named Miami, but that city is not what you think it is and not what his national backers want you to think it is.

You see, Miami Dade County has a mayor. And that mayor is called the Big Mayor here because all the other cities in the county, 34 of them, are small fries.

You know the University of miami? Yeah that's not in miami, it's in a city called Coral Gables. You know the Miami dolphins? They're not in Miami either they're in a separate city called Miami gardens. So what Philip? A lot of teams are outside the proper City. True except Miami Dade has a mayor for the entire County and those stadiums are all within her jurisdiction and all rely on her police and rely on her tax dollars.

Now there are some things in the proper City of Miami, like Florida international University, Miami's Public University. Oh wait no that's outside of Miami that's an unincorporated Miami-Dade County. My bad okay so the heat do technically play in Miami, they don't play in South Beach, which is a neighborhood that is part of a separate City on a separate island named Miami Beach. Sorry LeBron. But they do play on what was Miami's only Beach on the mainland.

Other things you may have heard of in Miami are the guys who play dominoes in Little Havana, which is technically and literally part of Miami the city. Not too far from them is where the Marlins play baseball in what was the Orange bowl. And good luck thinking of other things that are Miami and not part of Miami-Dade County and therefore not part of the city of Miami. Because I think that's about all I can think of. It's just one city out of 34 in a county of 2.7 million people.

So when you see Martin Lawrence and Will Smith running around being bad boys City of Miami Police, almost all of that movie in Miami is shot in a separate city named Miami Beach. There is a police force that has jurisdiction there, but it isn't the police force of Miami, it is the Miami-Dade Police. In other words mayor Suarez doesn't have s*** to do with the Miami-Dade Police because that's another mayor's jurisdiction.

Oh but Phillip I've been to Miami and I flew into the Miami international airport. Yeah go ahead and look that up it's operated by Miami-Dade County. Mayor Suarez is nobody the only reason anybody has ever heard of him is a couple of hacks at the New York Times and Washington Post think he's really special because they don't understand f****** anything about Miami. Oh and he's trying to avoid an indictment because you know he's a Republican.

The Miami Dade County mayor's name is Daniella Levine Cava. And guess what people, she's a Democrat. And she's really good at her job. And she's going to be the next governor of this state.

Keep this in mind she is the mayor of 2.7 million people in Miami-Dade county, which makes her the executive above a larger population than fourteen states in this country (and EIGHTY countries). She's a badass and that's the mayor you should be paying attention to.

@juddlegum and the list he gives of a supposedly diverse set of intellectual thinkers are all, so far as I know, libertarians with a varying degree of openness about their white supremacist views.

The damnedest thing about libertarianism is it has some merit on occasion. Keeping the government out of wombs and away from weed joints is in fact both libertarian and morally correct

Yet, so much of their thinking is both unified and intellectually bankrupt and more often than not morally bankrupt

@juddlegum the most dangerous thing about RFK jr, who is easy to prove is a Republican running as a Democrat, is that we'll have to spend any time at all proving he's just a Republican running as a Democrat to aid the GOP.

I'm not diminishing the damage his anti science anti vaxxing horse shit does. I just think he could do that same damage without the running for office--I mean, he has done a lot of damage without running already.

I hate to even mention Trump suck-up Marc Theissen and am not going to waste a gift article on him but this is just a dangerous take. The Constitution did not authorize pardons with conditions.

And any pardon will tell future presidents that trying to overthrow the government is risk free. There is no defense of Trump that makes any sense to anyone with a world view.

So, no thanks.

@TonyStark we actually have historic precedents that suggest non prosecution and pardons of very high ranking officials when done for the good of the country or for healing backfire.

CSA President Jefferson Davis was not prosecuted for his treason and war crimes, was pardoned by checks notes checks them again, shakes head JIMMY CARTER and today we have a Presidential candidate (DeSantis) wanting a military base named after arguably Davis worst general. His legacy STILL harms our unity.
