I told Vada quite a while ago thay I'd buy her Super Mario Wonder once she could ride her big girl bike (no training wheels) around the whole park all by herself and today she rode around the park TWICE!! So here we are.

Sure would be cool for someone to fix the housing crisis when even astrophysicists with doctorate degrees literally can't afford rent https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-24/bass-coast-rents-put-housing-out-of-reach/103464810

Well, fuck. I was messing around for ages trying to get custom font loading from a variable base path, not realising that in SvelteKit the $lib path alias works with css and scss files by default. This makes it so much easier! https://stolthq.com/blog/custom-fonts-sveltekit

We just watched The Fall Guy and for one of those "let's save a bunch of cash by filming it down under" type Hollywood movies it was actually pretty damn fun

Just in case anyone's interested The Guardian is doing a 90% off deal 12 issues for $12 for their Guardian Weekly magazine. Not sure how long the deal goes for but here you go. https://support.theguardian.com/subscribe/weekly/checkout?period=Quarterly

Well the actual fix for this turned out to be almost comically simple: calling res.truncated_body when fetching the preview card instead of res.body_with_limit, but hey it got accepted and merged. My code is now in Mastodon and a lot of our preview card issues should be fixed in the next release! :flower:

A note just for users of https://BNE.Social we've implemented this small patch on the server ahead of the next release so you should notice preview card images behaving better for sites like Wired and The New Yorker etc. Unfortunately it doesn't fix all sites (cough The Guardian) but it's a step in the right direction. Enjoy!

It was Amy's birthday today and we went to the Daisy Hill koala rescue and rehabilitation centre and it was pretty lovely. Vada had the best time walking on logs and learning about koala rescue. ❤️

I have done some poking around in the Mastodon code and it seems I've traced some preview card issues to an unlikely source.

def body_with_limit(limit = 1.megabyte)

If an article page's html content is larger than 1MB (like Wired and The New Yorker) then an error is raised and the preview card doesn't show.

If we set the limit to 2MB the preview card displays as normal.

ps. your site html really shouldn't be more than 1MB yet here we are

Book 2 of 100. Just finished this one. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. From the reviews it seems this one wasn't as well received as her other novels, but I actually really enjoyed it. I don't read too much modern fiction, but I wanted to give this one a try, and I'm glad I did. I love her writing style. I don't know why. There's just something about it. Maybe I'll give Gone Girl or Dark Places a go sometime.

Hmm strange. Seems I've marked Dark Places as "read" already on Goodreads and have rated it 3 stars. I have zero recollection of reading that book ... Maybe I'm just going mad.

Holy hell that was SOO much more of a screw around than I thought it would be but I finally have a Mastodon dev environment to play around in. Vagrant just flat out refused to work so I had to do the manual install. https://docs.joinmastodon.org/dev/setup/

@anathema_device @ash here it is on Android. I guess the buck teeth are the main change. I just see the nerd emoji, but I guess we all have our own history of visual cues etc that shape what we see. I don't really associate glasses and big teeth with people from Japan at all, but I can see back in old times that might be the stereotype. 😁
