We are not here to have an easy time and forget about it all. We are here because we like to gasp "why the hell doesn't it work?" or "how was it that you do that thing?" and then frustratingly hack our way through it until in the end it kinda works. This is a path of penitence and chastity from the temptations of the easy way through the clicks and UI buttons. We all work collectively to contribute to the elisp hive mind, until one day there will be the perfect configuration, everything will work out of the box, you will just have to customize your theme colors, and at that point singularity will be reached, and we will move on to ed.

I jumped ship and hopped over to the Linux Mint crowd. I used Pop_OS for ~3 months and it was an overall good experience on my ThinkPad X1 Gen 8.

But I always liked the Cinnamon desktop as I have used Mint for over a year before. And I didn't want to be part of the Rust-based re-invented desktop experience (COSMIC) driven by a company. Ultimately I believe that Linux is and should continue to be a community effort. Also, there were some minor annoyances (like the Pop_OS store eating up 1.2 GB of RAM all the time even when it is not running, an issue System76 is aware of for quite a while). And also, Snap.

If feels good to be back to a trusted distro whose maintainers generally make the right decisions (i.e. removing Snap).

Let's see how long it will last ;-)

@louis I really wanted to like pop_os but the audio gets broken every other upgrade... You are also more wall-gardened in the GPU drivers' choice, which can be a problem if you are into machine learning stuff. I still believe it may be the best mainstream option though for people that just want a system to run their games on.

Just downloaded the Emacs Lisp Manual and Introduction to Programming in Emacs Lisp to read on my flight back home.

#Apple desperately trying to sell me up on a new MacBook by sneaking in random bugs, like it suddenly decides over night that connecting a Dell display over USB-C no longer works.

I don't know what quarrel Apple has with #Dell but the two never got along well.

I think it's time to finally switch to the ThinkPad and get over with this.

pizzatorque,

@louis Imo Dell is superior, I still have a latitude from 2009 that runs void linux and works perfectly. Battery is very run down though

Protesilaos Stavrou: "I no longer maintain my Emacs projects on SourceHut" https://protesilaos.com/codelog/2024-01-27-sourcehut-no-more/

It's not a great sign for sr.ht if Prot can't make things work for him.

@jbaty @ctietze I was about to start messing with it, is it worth the investment? Seemed like a good excuse to practice git via email only

I pretty much avoided TRAMP so far. But today I was "adventurous" and Emacs again has blown my mind. TRAMP + with-editor-async-shell-command == I can run "crontab -e" on a remote machine and it automatically uses my local Emacs instance as $EDITOR. 🚀

(Yes, I still prefer cron :-)

@louis Tramp is awesome, especially now that docker support is basically built in.

Hi everyone,
I have already been in the fediverse for a while but decided to make an account fully dedicated to my streams on twitch.
I stream configuration stuff, packages I write or like, programming projects in or and sometimes gaming.
https://twitch.tv/pizzatorque
I have a casual stream planned for later today as well.
