When one of the actors laughs involuntarily, breaking character while delivering a particularly absurd science explanation, I believe the director must have left it in on purpose
Totally untested take that might be 100% wrong in several ways, tell me if I am:
Walking advocacy has had trouble attracting heat, because everyone just… does it. But runners are organized in clubs, persnickety about routes, and maybe can be engaged to fight for better pedestrian networks, maybe?
@bikepedantic So, in Indiana it's absolutely true that bike trails are billed as recreational amenities and advocated for by recreational cycling orgs, and also that the primary beneficiaries of those projects are commuters. This has a lot to do with who has the resources to be both a recreational cyclist and an activist.
So it makes perfect sense to me that mixed-use/running trails would get the same boost from runner advocacy, because runners are in the same class and have similar complaints
I am not a physicist but it seems reasonable to be skeptical of a physical model of the universe that recently had to invent the unobservable and theoretical concept of "dark radiation" to explain the unobservable and theoretical existence of "dark energy" which was intended to explain the unobservable and theoretical existence of "dark matter"
I get that these all have statistical proofs but we live in an era where statistical models perform lots of life-like illusions and lie to us because that's what we've trained them to do
When the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin, it was celebrated as a moral victory for international institutions, despite the US having withdrawn its membership over its war crimes in the Middle East and Africa
Now we're doubling down with the hypocrisy, threatening sanctions because now it's an ally that's doing war crimes
Very nice international law & order you've got there, would be a shame if
FYI you don't need to dump your Windows PC, you just need to avoid buying a new one
"To use Recall, users will need to purchase one of the new "Copilot Plus PCs" powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chips, which include the necessary neural processing unit (NPU). "
@bigtuffal Yep. I think the biggest risk of these is your employer using them, but with that kind of dependency you're not likely to see one for 5-10 years, if ever
By the way if you're trying to use MSFS to recreate the Darkstar flight from the movie:
You can't really, but if you go into the weight settings and take out the superfluous stuff (the bomb and the pilot) now you can exceed mach 10.0
Which is funny because the whole thing in the movie is pilots are the past and Maverick is like "not yet!" and this MSFS implementation flips the script like "wanna bet"
The practical jets have negative value on an already mediocre story: you just want to escape the plot as soon as possible and get to the next jet scene
The mission is hilariously video-gamey which also drives interest in the flying: the whys and hows are too stupid to focus on
“One of the last verses to be revealed was the verse
on ribā, and when the Messenger of Allah died, he had not explained it. So avoid ribā and any
dubious manner.” (Musnad Ahmad 350, Book 2, Hadith 255)
Musnad Ahmad advises that you avoid "any dubious manner" of financial transaction, just in case it might be usurious
This is sound advice and it's how you would behave if you genuinely wanted to avoid the sin
So it seems like, if you genuinely wanted to avoid sin while committing yourself to a military campaign, you'd probably try really, really hard to avoid doing anything that might resemble or in the aggregate approach genocide, just in case it is actually genocidal, and you'd probably care more about the spirit of your actions than the legal definitions that do or do not apply to them
Which sends the semantic squirming up a level: arguing over "intentions"
Privately, if you're honest with yourself, you know if you're engaging in the exercise of defending the intentions behind your sin, this activity is happening because you are fully aware of the fact of your having sinned
To argue about the relative spiritual criminality is to acknowledge the criminality
