What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?

I’m working on a some materials for a class wherein I’ll be teaching some young, wide-eyed Windows nerds about Linux and we’re including a section we’re calling “foot guns”. Basically it’s ways you might shoot yourself in the foot while meddling with your newfound Linux powers....

Me too, including when ferociously trying to debug why grub wouldn’t find a freaking bootable anything. The error message isn’t “uh, no config bro” but “hey, nothing to boot here, see ya in The Shell”. Argh.

Bonjour ! Dans le nord, le tutoiement est beaucoup plus accepté qu’ailleurs en France - une éventuelle faute d’inattention ne posera pas de problème.

Pour se déplacer en province, les transports publics ça peut être compliqué - soit tu as bien prévu tout ton trajet avec les transports existants, soit… Il vaut mieux louer sur une période courte pour pouvoir se rendre sur les lieux un peu en-dehors des clous.

La plupart de la côte belge et normande sont du territoire public, on peut s’y promener librement et les traces de la seconde guerre y sont nombreuses.

Je ne suis pas du Nord, mais belge ; la côte belge elle a un tram qui la longe en grande partie, c’est très pratique. Comme la Belgique c’est tout petit, en restant sur la côte je suggère de monter jusqu’à Ostende, et de faire la visite guidée des petites rues organisée par le musée Ensor (c’est un audio-guide dans ton téléphone)

Le “vrai” nord n’est pas très touristique ; la ville de Calais par exemple est toujours l’endroit où échouent les migrants de partout qui cherchent à passer au Royaume-Uni - c’est une réalité du monde d’aujourd’hui, avec dans cette région la désindustrialisation massive, pas mal de chômage et de pauvreté.

Loin de moi de te décourager : c’est aussi une terre chaleureuse, solidaire… Mais parfois un peu grise quand même. Paris pour moi à côté c’est sans doute joli, mais brutal et agressif.

J’espère que le climat sera avec vous (on a pas bonne réputation là-dessus), oubliez pas l’imperméable. La mer du nord est la seule mer du monde qui est plus jolie sous la pluie!

Côté anglophone, quelqu’un a posté un article de l’excellent “The Register”, à propos de l’avis rendu par l’EDPB contre meta dans ce système… Et de comment la cour de justice européenne a déjà tranché en fait, c’est légal pour l’instant puisque de facto le client a le choix de partager, ou non, ses données personnelles. Il y est bien spécifié que meta n’a pas l’intention de changer son fusil d’épaule puisque la question a été résolue.

J’ai cité ce truc parce qu’emblématique - si meta est déjà passé en justice sur la légalité du type de choix proposé, ça rend d’autres plaintes improbables.

Personne n’oblige personne à partager ses données ou à sortir son portefeuille - et le propriétaire du site n’a pas d’obligation de l’ouvrir gratuitement ; la règle européenne du consentement à la récolte de données est respectée.

Astonishingly, the trailer for Triangle Of Sadness reveals a lot, even the whole timeline of the plot, while the movie achieve to surprise and astonish with how much more there is to it.

I was afraid I wouldn’t enjoy it because I somehow “knew” how it was going to end, but oh, my, that was only the surface and the craziness ran m7ch, much deeper.

Aujourd’hui j’en ai inventé un. En voulant expliquer à une collègue qui doit se rendre au Togo et avait l’ambition “d’en profiter pour visiter le Zimbabwe”, je lui ai demandé si financièrement ça n’avait pas plus de sens de raygionner autour du Togo - enfant batard né de l’union de Rayonner et Region.

Est-ce accepté ? Suis-je automatiquement devenu membre perpétuel de la Cademmye ?

“Merde”. As in, the french word for “shit” - or, should we say, “horseshit”. Why? Well because at the time of horse-drawn carriages, a successful play at the theatre would leave a lot of horseshit in front if the theatre from the many, many coaches awaiting their fares.

I only ever update between projects - no way am I going to break something in the middle of everything.

This time, jump to new gnome means broken extensions as usual, and a hilarious one: qbittorrent doesn’t show it’s window in Wayland (gnome-with-X works). The soft is running, it there in the list of apps, there’s even a big X “Close Window” button on Zoom Out but no actual window.

You forgot the longstanding heritage of soviet designs from the Gaz and Zil limousines. The greenhouse is very rolls, but the front end is Pure Soviet Regurgitation (also it is a design from 10 years ago).

Where I work we have brand new Media Servers for a 4 beamers video wall running on W7 - software vendor says it’s the last “unobtrusive” windows that just does what it is told to do. Remote control is via whatever, but the servers are 7 and will stay so. VNC’ing into those is quite the time travel.

I designed an entire theatre using QCad Pro ; architect was on some unlicensed, outdated AutoCAD and engineering on Vektorworks. But for engineering, which I had to require .dxf exports from, I was able to work, integrate and send back to everybody from QCad. QCad is free and FOSS, the Pro version is $40/year and offers more import-export format and some neat scripts. If you don’t want to fork out the $40, ODA File Converter will do the .dwg-.dxf conversions for you.
