Did you know that Plinky is directly integrated into the beautiful RSS reader Unread?

The amazing @johnbrayton has built a Save Article Action for Plinky that lets you save links from @unread to Plinky in one tap. The setup takes seconds, by taking advantage of Plinky’s new Plinky ID lookup feature.

If you love Plinky and you love RSS it’s never been a better time to start saving the links you love in your favorite RSS reader.

In between last minute wedding arrangements I've managed to squeeze in a small Plinky Mini update. You can now use Sign in with Apple to sign into Plinky Mini, no Plinky ID required. (Though it is still an option for when you're on a computer logged into a different Apple ID.)

There won't be any other Plinky updates this week because I don’t want to be up at the altar worrying about an app update gone wrong, but I promise to get back to making Plinky better next week!

Plinky 1.0.9 is now available in the App Store with a lil feature and a fix.

There was an occasional crash that would occur on the iPad and Mac when trying to create a new Folder or Tag — it was a surprisingly subtle accessibility bug.

More excitingly developers and automators can now retrieve their Plinky ID handily by using the x-callback-url scheme. It's a very seamless process that also protects user privacy, you can learn more about it here.

A special thank you to @johnbrayton for the suggestion to include a prompt, it makes for a really great balance between user privacy and user experience. 🙇🏻‍♂️

Loved this Plinky review by @mbjones, genuinely honored that someone liked Plinky enough to write about their experience using it!

Saving links in Plinky is so easy, even a cat can do it. Happy ! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7HisvHuVoL

@mbjones Wow, so kind of you to write this review Brandon, it means a lot to me! (Also love that it's a link I can save to Plinky and share with others. 😉)

Happy to listen to design suggestions you have that may match your tastes, the current design is very playful but over time I'm going to introduce simpler themes and more interface customization options to create a home for links that suits even more people. (There's also a Noir theme today if you'd like something less colorful.)

@mbjones Perfectly reasonable to have preferences, no grain of salt needed. Speaking candidly my perspective was focused on two things.

  1. Making sure interactions felt at home on iOS (there's always a standard way to do something or a quick way for power users like swipe or long press.)
  2. A bottom-oriented design, everything should be reachable no matter how big your iPhone is, for people like me with small hands or not. 😂

Would love to add more options if you think something would help you!

@mbjones Thanks, I'd appreciate that! I find email is best (support@redpanda.club) so you can include images and videos easily, with more room than 500 characters to explain something. 🙃

Plinky 1.0.8 is now live, shipped to the App Store from a bar because we truly live in an amazing time for computing. Go get the latest and greatest with lots of little fixes and user experience improvements, most notably the ability to save links from Apple's apps like the App Store, Apple Maps, etc. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/plinky-easily-save-links/id1597187737

The latest Plinky update adds a new About Red Panda Club screen, and on that screen I have little a thank you to everyone who's helped and supported me while I've been building Plinky. The list is incomplete and opt-in, so if you've ever helped (even in the smallest way, beta testing counts) and would like for me to add your name (and optional website), please let me know and I'll be happy to add you to the next update as a token of my gratitude. 🙂

Happy holidays everybody, may you have peace, love, and warmth wherever you are. The only thing that truly matters is that you're happy, healthy, safe, (and love apps).

@MuseumShuffle You can thank me playing around with DALL-E some time in October (and saving it) for that. 🙃

Heading into Thanksgiving I'm feeling very thankful for all of the kindness, support, and help I've been given this year while building Plinky and Short Circuit.

I haven't had time to post because I've been so busy getting the app ready for launch. If you're on the beta (ahem, https://plinky.app) you've seen all of the updates, but I wanted to share something new.

V1 of Plinky's Chrome extension is now available, you can now save links to Plinky from the web!

There are a whole slew of integrations coming soon thanks to a Zapier app I built for Plinky, but what I'm most excited to announce is that I've started working on Plinky for iPad, and a lil app to save links on the Mac called Plinky Mini. 🙂 https://plinky.app/releases/build-264

redpandaclub,
@redpandaclub@indieapps.space avatar

@rlpavel Thanks Pavel!

I definitely plan on building more comprehensive editing features, including the ability to make batch updates. These probably won't be available on launch because I need to. do some refactoring to make it happen when saving, but I agree that it will make organization much easier.

I'm going to be doing some slight design tweaks to how tags and collections are displayed on the Save Link and Filters screens, what kind of changes would you like to see?

@redpandaclub any timeline for when Short Circuit will support the new ChatGPT models? (4 turbo)

redpandaclub,
@redpandaclub@indieapps.space avatar

@DanielPMeltzer Hey Daniel! We've already written the code to integrate the new models, but unfortunately the models are currently in developer preview which means that the daily rate limit is 100 API calls per day. The second the models are generally available, which OpenAI has suggested will be a few weeks, we'll happily integrate it into Short Circuit.

@redpandaclub@indieapps.space avatar

A Short Circuit user reached out to ask if they could use the action button to make Short Circuit feel more interactive like Siri, and after a little bit of experimenting I was able to put this Shortcut together. They loved it, so I figured I’d share it with everyone else who may want to have an easily accessible Siri-replacement. 🙂

Shortcut available here: https://shortcircuit.chat/shorty-chat-shortcut

And if you happen to use another AI assistant app (I get it, I get it, I know ChatGPT exists), this technique works well for any app that supports Shortcuts.

@osanchez If you select the Shortcuts Folder option in the Action Button menu it will display the first 7 Shortcuts in that folder whenever you press the Action Button.

@redpandaclub How can I get rid of this macOS menu icon for "Ask Shorty”?

I don't understand why I have it, because there doesn't seem to be a macOS version of Short Circuit.

Either way, this menu item should offer an option to change settings/uninstall from inside the menu. As-is it's inscrutable and very annoying.

Sorry if it's not from your app, I genuinely can't tell.

redpandaclub,
@redpandaclub@indieapps.space avatar

@jerclarke Hey Jer, no problem at all. You are probably seeing this because you have the "Pin in Menu Bar" option selected, that makes the Ask Shorty Shortcut accessible from the macOS menu bar.

You can open up the Shortcuts app on Mac, open the Shortcut, tap the little (i) icon on the right and uncheck Pin in Menu Bar, and then it should go away. If it doesn't please let me know and I'd be happy to help figure out what's going on!
