Considering handlebar covers/mittens for doing #OpenStreetMap updates in cold weather. They're quite pricey though. Would they help?
It's fairly slow travel, with frequent stops near the footway=sidewalk to record data on the phone. Are they any good for that sort of thing, if I use them with a pair of insulated fingerless gloves underneath? #BikeTooter@bikes@mastobikes@cycling
@achadwick@bikes@mastobikes@cycling They work very well, especially with thin liner gloves on. Look for mittens for motorcycle/atv, usually a lot cheaper and work just as well.
2/2 I want to build a #custom#cargobike suitable for these conditions, probably based on a #bullitt, #ginkgo or #bogbi#framekit and I'd like to ask you #bicycle people for advice regarding the choice of the least maintenance intensive #components for my circumstances. What would you choose?
@amadeus I've got the alfine 11 with chain, so no experience with the gates. Chain wear is the only issue i have experienced, with less-than-recommended maintenance of the alfine hub. I ride it mostly in the rain, west-coast of Norway. Quite salty conditions in the winter when the roads are salted, mild climate year-round, rarely below -5.
Edit: It sits on a bullitt by the way, fastest and most agile cargobike I have tried. Can only recommend it!
@amadeus More often than I actually do it. I think weekly wipe down and lubrication would have done the trick to increase chain life, but I treat it with tough love and keep a spare in the shed.
I'm amazed I've not found this online but I'm hoping someone can help me.
Does anyone know of a way to adjust brakes on drop bars when they are (from what I can tell) not cable operated? The cable goes directly into the brakes and see no evidence of a cable.
By adjust I mean when I pull my rear brake the level comes so far back it touches the drop bars, barely engaging with the brakes. Just want it a bit more sensitive.
