Everything You Wanted to Know About Vector Tiles (But Were Afraid to Ask) 🗾✨

https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/daniel-j-h/diary/404061

I collected my thoughts on vector maps and vector tiles after having spent some time reading the mvt spec for the first time 🦧💡

Happy year of vector maps! 🎉

Thanks to @thibaultmol and @MapComplete for informing me of the tags service:electricty=yes/no/limited/… for whether there's a place to plug in your laptop in a cafe.

It can be added quickly with this MapComplete page: :mapcomplete: https://mapcomplete.org/cafes_and_pubs.html

Contributing to is really rewarding. With and its live updates you can see your changes on the map about 10-15 minutes after you submit them. A big difference from where you wait days for a review and even longer for the change to show up on the map.

To my friends, do you know how to show maps on a django application and then allow user to store information related to location, and show on the map?

Avoimen datan karttapalvelu OpenStreetMap on pulassa Pokemon Go -pelaajien takia

Ja Pokemon Go käyttää karttanaan nimenomaan OSM:ää - samaa, jota mm. Apple ja Facebook käyttävät.

Joten näppärät pelaajat ovat alkaneet lisäilemään rantaviivoja mm. kotinsa takapihalle, kaupunkien keskustoihin, jne saadakseen himoitun pokemonin haltuunsa.

It really helped when I was exploring a remote trailing area. I finally found the trails and reached the destination where there's only one ferry per day to carry me back to human residential areas! Hew~ 😅😆

I'm really starting to get into editing and now have the desire to organize an editing event in which one or two people are boots on the ground, livestreaming their perspective walking around an area in a Discord call while others are editing and adding features to the map as they are reported from the people walking around.

Seems like the best way to get pedestrian amenities - stairs, benches, bins, emergency phones, bike parking, etc - effectively and accurately.

Annotations are information about the location that we add to the geocoding API results
