I always thought omg.lol was a delightful thing that existed in the world but People Principles were blogged yesterday.
https://omglol.news/2024/05/26/omg-lols-people-principles

so then I basically immediately signed up for https://reed.omg.lol/.

@eleventy it's just JavaScript, Michael. What could it cost, 4mb?

On the train for the first time in four and a half years! Capitol Limited to Chicago in my own little room. I love sleeping on the train and I'm looking forward to watching the dark route pass by.

Those of you who use a static site generator for your blog (, , etc), what's your workflow for writing posts? Do you write them in a markdown editor and then copy it to your IDE when you're ready to publish (which is what I do), or do you do something else?

I am looking to switch up my workflow and I'm curious about what others do. Let me know!

reedpiernock,
@reedpiernock@higheredweb.social avatar

@starshaped I mostly use VS Code in split view, one side for writing markdown and the other for previewing markdown.

Bloody hell some websites have the most awful cumulative layout shifts.

Even when you hold off tapping or clicking for a couple of seconds (we're used to doing that hold now, this jank is everywhere), or even 5 seconds, and you finally think "surely everything must have loaded by now", then you go for it and NOPE away goes your intended target, and some other link, button or active damned div has moved itself to the exact place your finger strikes the screen.

Fooooorrrr fuuucks saaaaaaake

@sarajw I'm watching horror movies and I just want to check Does the Dog Die for info and I can't even do that because good god what has happened to the internet

Chilling outside a brewery, having a tiny hefeweizen, and reading a book. It's a great late afternoon

Started using my standing desk again a few weeks ago and alternating between sitting and standing during my workday helps a LOT with my focus and concentration. Glad I got back to it!

reedpiernock,

@starshaped I have a hard time writing code while standing, but standing during meetings has been super helpful for me!

What practical uses of container queries have you seen or created that aren't cards?

reedpiernock,
@reedpiernock@higheredweb.social avatar

@5t3ph I'm working with our UX designer to update heading sizes per page templates -- the full-width landing page content area can have larger headings, which look TOO big on pages with sidebars. Containers queries are helping more than media queries combined with page template classes, those were getting buggy. I deleted SO MANY lines of code.

Doesn’t recording a convo in the USA require consent from all parties? “Rewind Pendant is a wearable that captures what you say and hear in the real world and then transcribes, encrypts, and stores it entirely locally on your phone.” In Canada it only requires consent of one party, which can be the party making the recording. 🤨 All these AI wearables can f*ck right off, cause I have friends that will buy them. Not looking forward to the future so much this morning.

It is an absolutely lovely day today! Sunny, with just a hint that sweater weather is almost here 🍂 Sitting in the park while I wait for my bus, drinking a cinnamon latte.

I'll need to shop my yarn stash and find if I have enough to knit something new. I still need to add buttons to LAST year's sweater 😅
