Really difficult puzzle today, for me. QB usually takes me 20-30 minutes but this one dragged on for well over an hour, even with all the hints available.

How long does combat in PF2e take?

On my last session of d&d combat took too long and I had to apologize for it to my players. One player, who is a Pathfinder 2e player, said it’s nothing compared to long fights he had in that system, where between party of high level casters, boss, minions and enemy spellcasters, he would be waiting a whole hour for his next...

PF2E has a lot of crunch, so combat slows down dramatically as character level increases.

No matter who wins here, everyone loses

We had a dozen of those when I was a kid, along with a bunch of aluminum tins containing the nastiest soda crackers you can possibly imagine. The civil defense water barrels were very useful but the “food” was something you’d only eat if there was no alternative.

Definitely a longer word list than I would’ve expected. There are a ton of short words, but thankfully no super-weird words today.

With Austin office buildings 20 percent vacant, conversion to housing remains out of reach (www.austinmonitor.com)

Two years ago, with the office real estate market in Austin stuck at a 20 percent vacancy rate, Brad Stein took the first of two trips to other markets to see if some of the hundreds of thousands of empty spaces in downtown Austin and areas beyond could be converted into badly needed housing stock. What Stein saw in a 2022 visit...

I’m running basically what you’re describing on an i5 intel nuc, which basically the same as the better beelink minipc’s and it works just fine. I don’t think I’d try it on the super cheap ones with 2-4 cores, but anything equivalent to a core i3 or better should be fine.

There are a lot of weirdos who think cold fried chicken is great. I had a roommate who ate it right out of the fridge. Never underestimate the infinite diversity of bad taste.

What, am I an animal? Air fryer or oven! Covered pan on the stove in a pinch.

Today in History: May 4, four killed during anti-war protest at Kent State University (apnews.com)

With all the National Guard surrounding many university campuses nationwide, it came to mind how potentially similar outcomes could be to the infamous day on the Kent State University grounds…and wouldn’t you know it?, the incident happened 54 years ago today!...

It’s cute how these memes act like weekends are a thing.

All salt is sea salt.

The Murray Darling Basin is part of this natural geographic of the land, where an ancient inland ocean once flourished. Ocean sediments, the weathering of rocks and rainfall over millions of years formed the Murray/Darling Basin’s landscapes and rivers.

Still originally sea salt, just like all the other mined salts.

Being that low to the ground seems like it would be a bit suicidal on American roads without a totally protected bike lane. A lot of our ridiculous SUVs would have a bumper right about skull height to that thing.

I didn’t get a particularly impressive time on today’s NYT crossword, but I did manage to fill every across on the first pass. I know it’s only a Monday puzzle but it still feels like an achievement.

I ignored mine for over a decade and it quietly turned itself from grass into a naturally low-growing ground cover that looks like clover. It never needs watering and the only mowing needed is to chop down the stray weed here and there. It’s quite nice.

Edit: I should add that the plant that took over is native to the area.

It depends on which line you take. Amtrak has different service levels on different routes. When I took the coast starlight from Seattle to San Jose it was wonderful, with clean cars, great food, and courteous service. When I took the southwest chief from LA to the middle of the country, it was a completely different experience. The porters were still friendly but the equipment was grungy and frequently broken and the food was about what you’d get at Denny’s. Bear in mind that both times I was in a ridiculously expensive first class cabin.

I’ve never taken the empire builder, which runs east-west across the northern part of the country, but I’ve read that it’s a “premier” service, so it should be on par with the coast starlight.

Edit: c/grey food/great food/

That’s kind of true for Amtrak everywhere except a few dedicated Acela lines in the east. The rest of their trains run on freight rail and freight trains get priority.

Paizo uses words very specifically, much like lawyers. Note that in your highlighted text they use the word “abilities.” A critical hit is not an ability, it is a game mechanic. It also isn’t modifying the weapon’s inherent damage dice, just the dice rolled for one attack.

IMO, sneak attack damage should and does apply, even on a crit with this weapon.
