No such animal exists. They’re all rolling data collection machines.

I drive a bolt. To somewhat minimize the GM evil, I don’t have the GM app installed and I didn’t give the Bluetooth connection access to anything but Apple CarPlay. Of course if you’re a real privacy purist, you don’t have a smartphone and don’t use Bluetooth anyway.

If you want a car with privacy, you’ll have to buy an old car without a computer.

Any time you have e and d in the list, it’s going to blow up. It still took me forever to find all the pangrams.

Definitely a longer word list than I would’ve expected. There are a ton of short words, but thankfully no super-weird words today.

With Austin office buildings 20 percent vacant, conversion to housing remains out of reach (www.austinmonitor.com)

Two years ago, with the office real estate market in Austin stuck at a 20 percent vacancy rate, Brad Stein took the first of two trips to other markets to see if some of the hundreds of thousands of empty spaces in downtown Austin and areas beyond could be converted into badly needed housing stock. What Stein saw in a 2022 visit...

Really difficult puzzle today, for me. QB usually takes me 20-30 minutes but this one dragged on for well over an hour, even with all the hints available.

How long does combat in PF2e take?

On my last session of d&d combat took too long and I had to apologize for it to my players. One player, who is a Pathfinder 2e player, said it’s nothing compared to long fights he had in that system, where between party of high level casters, boss, minions and enemy spellcasters, he would be waiting a whole hour for his next...

PF2E has a lot of crunch, so combat slows down dramatically as character level increases.

Is it still an unpopular opinion if I just hate that I agree with you?

(Writing this from my linux gaming desktop. I don’t use arch btw)

Finished the Friday NYT “big” crossword in 11:49 with NO hints or googling needed! I don’t think I’ve ever done that before.

Nerdy fact: a gargoyle is only a gargoyle if it’s there for drainage from a roof or other architectural feature. If it’s just decorative, it’s a grotesque or just a plain old statue.

Because the US doesn’t have proportional representation and uses “first past the post” voting, basically any vote for a third party candidate is wasted.

There are other parties but their main effect is to sway elections by “stealing” votes from the two main parties. There’s a group trying to form a party called “No Labels” right now but if you look at their financial backers, you can clearly see they only exist to try to weaken democrats.

Admittedly there are some other parties that genuinely try to get elected, such as the Green Party, but they rarely succeed in even the tiniest local elections.

I can’t comprehend why you’d put a link to a summary of the original article (a freaking mobile link to boot) instead of the original story.

Seriously, fuck IMDB and fuck amazon.

Musk's X Corp loses lawsuit against Israeli data-scraping company (www.reuters.com)

May 10 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge dismissed a lawsuit in which Elon Musk’s X Corp accused an Israeli data-scraping company of illegally copying and selling content, and selling tools that let others copy and sell content, from the social media platform....

Pandora, because I like to pick one song or band and have it create a radio station for me. I’ve tried most of the other services that say they do the same thing and none of them are nearly as good at it as Pandora.

Games stuttering then wifi crashes on pop_os

I’m a new Linux user, mainly using it for gaming. Loving it so far but, after playing games for about an hour the game and audio will stutter. Immediately after my wifi disconnects and has trouble or is unable to reconnect, sometimes the wifi adapter is unavailable until I reboot. I’m hoping there is a software fix and I...

You’re sort of right and sort of very wrong. There are a lot of badly built mobile homes, and some very well built tiny homes, for sure. Unfortunately the large majority of tiny home companies have avoided complying with the national building codes and are instead building only to RV standards. That’s not to say they aren’t doing good work, but RVIA standards are well short of NBC in terms of safety and durability. That’s why you’ll usually see a disclaimer on tiny builder sites saying their homes aren’t meant for long term full time occupancy. It’s also why getting affordable insurance for a tiny home is very expensive and difficult.

My favorite grocery store sells “pot-ready spaghetti noodles” which are half the length of normal ones. I think Italy’s declaration of war is a foregone conclusion at this point

We had a dozen of those when I was a kid, along with a bunch of aluminum tins containing the nastiest soda crackers you can possibly imagine. The civil defense water barrels were very useful but the “food” was something you’d only eat if there was no alternative.

Does the USA have any open market cellular options that are legitimate pay-as-you-go and only for what you use options like Europe yet?

I’ve lived under a rock for 10 years. I did Metro ages ago while most were still on contracts. Surely we’ve reached true capitalist open market freedom by now. Is it still total closed market, noncompetitive, privateering corruption?

You can sorta get close with MVNOs like Tello. I have a plan that’s $6.16/month, including taxes.
