Whenever you send a message, you expect it to arrive at its intended destination without being re-routed to, read by, or responded to by anyone but the person (or people) you sent the message to.

Session doesn't rely on trust on first use.

Most private messaging apps do.

DePIN is a radical new model for technology-building.

DePINs (Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Networks) are community-operated networks of real-world infrastructure used to provide services (such as storing Session data 😏).

It gives us a framework for building tech that is more people-focused than ever before. Let’s leave behind the era of extraction and co-create something better.

How do centralised and decentralised messaging apps stack up?

Decentralised encrypted messaging apps are trustless systems. You don’t need to place your trust — or your privacy — in the hands of a controlling entity when you use a decentralised messaging app.

You can never trust centralised networks to be private, secure, or safe from censorship. Decentralised networks remove trust from the equation completely.

Paying for basic digital privacy undermines the GDPR required concept of freely given consent.

Facebook's price reduction of their EU ad-free subscription from €9.99 to €5.99 is not a privacy win — its a win for Meta.

Your digital rights are human rights, not something that needs to be bought.

A Wired analysis your data is shared with 1800 ad partners every time you visit a website. The extent of this tracking is misrepresented by burying cookie preferences under intrusive popups.

“Every single person we’ve ever observed in user testing doesn't read any of this. They find the fastest way they can to close it. They end up in a worse privacy state.”

Its never been more important to protect your privacy.

A new cross-platform Session release gradually rolled out to all users at the start of the month.

We're delivering a major upgrade to disappearing messages, introducing new functionality and making existing functionality more intuitive.

All Session clients participating in a conversation need to have updated for this new functionality to work, so the upgrade hasn't activated yet.

It will become active within 24 hours, on March 13th at 10am AEDT.

If you haven’t updated, you should do so now.

🍾 Huge news 🍾

In 2024, we will be migrating from the Oxen Network to the Session Network.

This will add clarity and transparency to our ecosystem, massively simplify running a Session server, and eventually enable new functionality.

📢 This change will not impact the security of Session users 📢

It's a change designed to make the network stronger and more scaleable, and to improve the experience of network operators.
