The whitewashing of what Donald Trump did during the pandemic is stunning.

In fact, 400,000 Americans were confirmed dead of COVID-19 during the Trump administration—with the estimated undercount at that point being an additional 75,000.

The next 200,000 to die died because of negligent practices Trump pushed while in office and before President Biden could do anything about it.

Trump rhetoric continued to spur deaths thereafter.

Now an educated man is putting just "100,000" deaths on Trump.

RE: https://www.threads.net/

seth.abramson,

This is not an attack on David Baker. The view that Baker is expressing that the pandemic largely happened under Biden is almost ubiquitous at this point, for all that it is ahistorical. There is no malice behind this misinformation in the case of Mr. Baker, merely the same false sense of events many Americans have largely because major media has allowed them to have it. But the impact on the 2024 presidential election will be enormous. Trump literally says people were better off four years ago.

seth.abramson,

It's not just that nearly half of all deaths happened under Trump. It's the separate matter of nearly half of all deaths being directly attributable to Trump. If you add those who died under Trump and those whose deaths were attributable to Trump the number is not just staggering but over half of those who died. And many in the remaining half died because of bad ideas about masking and vaccines Trump supported and President Biden opposed. If we cannot get recent history right, we are doomed.

(📢) BREAKING NEWS: Donald Trump Is Violating His Gag Order Through a Low-Tech Conspiracy

This is a must-read for those who care about rule of law; the scope of Trump’s illicit plot is fully outlined. The report is free via a trial offer at the link.

seth.abramson,

(NOTE) One could argue that @ManhattanDA has an obligation as an officer of the court to alert Judge Merchan to the fact that Trump is again violating his gag order.

There is no reason not to make a filing with the court immediately—and seek the incarceration Merchan forecast.

Why thread when there are summaries this perfect? A picture is worth a thousand threads.

I avoid posting long threads at Threads because no one sees them—especially if they’re about politics—but I did one at Twitter today that if (and only if) you visit there occasionally I hope you’ll check out.

We long ago learned exactly what this is: empathy for financially comfortable whites and contempt for anyone poor. Our criminal justice system is so commonly used against poor nonwhites in a way it's never used against middle-class or wealthy whites—the groups most likely to be hunters, gun collectors or insurrectionists—that normally supporting prosecutors meets Alito's needs as an elitist bigot. Now less so. Give him some leftist activists and he'll find his groove again as a Big State stooge.

RE: https://www.threads.net/@nbcnews/post/C635EqWr-MZ

seth.abramson,

Many people dramatically underestimate how much wealthy white men aim to use the criminal justice system to keep the allegedly unruly poor in line. But at the first hint of anyone that looks like them being caught up in the justice system, they'll howl as though you've stepped on their foot as hard as possible. It's in these moments we understand the criminal justice system for what it is: an instrument for command and control of the less fortunate by and for the more fortunate. The sad truth.

Is it strange for CNN to write a report on Scott Perry calling other people “un-American” without noting he co-planned a day of an armed rebellion against the United States just forty months ago?

If America were functional, Mr. Perry would be in prison.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/08/politics/scott-perry-closed-door-comments/index.html

seth.abramson,

It’s almost like these insurrectionists don’t have to subtly reintegrate themselves into America, because media will do it for them.

In fact, they should be pariahs literally for the rest of their natural lives.

ffs

Oh! It all makes sense, then.

Now we know why the NYT often stinks and is often only barely deserving of being termed “journalism.” It is self-consciously poll-driven pap.

We are still underestimating the historical gravity—the dark awesomeness—of the last answer Hope Hicks gave under direct examination.

She revealed, in essence, that Trump admitted to her that he would have lost in 2016 had he not committed 34 felonies.

Sit a moment with that.

How is it that it took court artists to capture his evil essence

seth.abramson,

Absolute Picassos, every one, revealing his profound spiritual rot

seth.abramson,

Now compare those masterworks to the Crayola Kids below who appear to be seeing Trump for the first time, or think they’re in a Don Bluth film, or wear special glasses that project a glowing Biblical halo around anyone in their perimeter

What the heck are we even looking at here

(📣) Hi, all! With “Donald Von Schitzenpants” trending globally on social media, I figured today was a very good day to repost this massive, sprawling, and most importantly free journalistic report on Donald Trump’s infamous, gag-inducing incontinence. I hope you’ll share it widely.

Donald Trump just told a Michigan crowd that he’s up in Michigan by as many as 11 points.

At what point is mental illness in a man who can launch nuclear weapons a dealbreaker? I know his cultists say never because they want the whole world to burn, but what about normal people?

seth.abramson, to random

America better learn the difference between organic and inorganic protest activity really damn quick. There are some very bad actors out there—many of whom are not leftists at all but in fact want a Trump presidency—who have every motive, means and opportunity to cause chaos now.

See my pinned report for more. I believe you are going to start hearing a lot about this issue from major media in the coming hours and days.

seth.abramson, to random

No matter how peaceful these pro-ceasefire protests are, and no matter how much any violence at them is caused by grandstanding GOP governors calling in government agents to forcefully brook protesters’ free speech...

(1) Elon won’t say a word to defend protesters’ free speech rights, as he doesn’t care about government abridging leftist speech, just his private company platforming N*zis

and

(2) This fall the MAGAs will say, “Remember when college commies burned down our cities to aid Hamas?”
