I would love to see him make the move. Anything that weakens the UFC’s power is a good thing.

Heat wave puts over two-thirds of U.S. population under heat alerts (www.axios.com)

A heat wave that has stifled the southern tier of the U.S. for weeks has expanded into the Plains, Midwest and now the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Thursday, triggering heat alerts for over 227 million people, according to the National Weather Service.

sin_free_for_00_days,

It’s such an uncomfortable truth!

Some might even call it an Inconvenient Truth!

A confused Dianne Feinstein tried to give a speech in the middle of a Senate hearing vote and was told to 'just say aye' instead (www.businessinsider.com)

Senator Dianne Feinstein appeared confused during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on Thursday. When asked to vote on a proposal, Feinstein began giving a lengthy speech instead of simply saying “aye” or “nay” as requested. The committee chair, Senator Patty Murray, had to repeatedly tell Feinstein “just say...

People decry most “both sides” arguments for legitimate reasons. But this geriatric pandering takes place on both sides. It is absolutely disgusting to witness.

sin_free_for_00_days,

I can easily see the DNC having Newsom put Shiff in the seat if Feinstein dies (she’s not going out any other way). Then Shiff would be the incumbent and the DNC and Dem voters usually go for the incumbent. Otherwise, they’ll end up with Porter. She makes waves and the boys at the top, they don’t like waves.

https://www.senate.gov/about/origins-foundations/senate-and-constitution/constitution.htm#a1:

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

sin_free_for_00_days,

Then came Ronald Reagan and the dark times.

That about sums up the situation.

sin_free_for_00_days,

The Republican party has led the initial charge, with a series of claims about extraterrestrial life that, until recently, would have been seen as career-ending.

LOL, more distraction from one party’s inability to do their freaking job. It’s funny that 1) alien visitors cross unfathomable distances using what must be technology far, far, in advance of anything we have, yet “crash” and 2) These “crashes” only happen in the US, or the US quickly swoops in to take all evidence of this from foreign countries.

tl;dr Americans are so self-centered and narcissistic it’s painful at times.

Michael Bisping believes Jon Jones can’t ‘hold a candle’ to Tom Aspinall: "I think Tom will do the same thing to Jon Jones as what he did to Marcin Tybura. I don’t think there’s anyone that can sto... (mmajunkie.usatoday.com)

This is quite the take from UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping when measuring up Tom Aspinall to Jon Jones.

sin_free_for_00_days,

Bisping is such a homer. Put any UK fighter in the discussion and he just starts gushing.

sin_free_for_00_days,

pdfimages is what you want, I believe. It’s in the poppler-utils package in Debian.

sin_free_for_00_days,

That just brings me back to starting the compile, getting something to eat, doing chores, and whatever else. Then when it was finally done, booting it up only for it to not boot because I forgot some checkbox. Repeat a couple of times. Nights getting the thing working. And then on the next kernel release, trying to make sure I remembered all the checks because it didn’t let you export the current config back then.

sin_free_for_00_days,

A friend of mine is a musician. About a decade or two ago I went over to his house and he said that he had to get a new fan to fix his computer. I asked him what was going on, so he turned it on and I heard that tick-tick-tick of the read head. I had to let him know it was his hard drive. He had a lot backed up, but not everything, and not the stuff he’d been working on the past couple weeks. Just a bummer. But he did set up a backup program after that.

sin_free_for_00_days,

I’ve got over a decade on you, and if anything I’m further left and more pro age-limits than I’ve ever been in my life.

sin_free_for_00_days,

The Constitution says that a person can’t be under 30 to serve in the Senate. Is that saying that there aren’t any sub-30 year olds who would be great Senators? Why is one arbitrary limit OK, but one on the other end of the range suddenly undemocratic? That just makes no sense to me.

sin_free_for_00_days,

If only all the moron maga types realized when they were being fed bullshit.

Gaetz introduces legislation to end ‘unqualified’ birthright citizenship (thehill.com)

Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced legislation that would end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to non-citizen parents. Currently, the 14th Amendment grants citizenship to all born in the U.S., including children of undocumented immigrants and those on temporary visas. However, Gaetz claims this has enabled fraud and...

sin_free_for_00_days,

It would be better if he introduced some legislation that said if you partake in child abuse, through interstate underage sex trafficking, or don’t report or do anything about sexual abuse taking place in sports that you oversee, that you can’t be a Congressman. Wish in one hand, and shit in the other.

It would be crazy if they actually get the votes to change The Constitution for this. I can’t see it happening. But I’ve said that too many times and been wrong over the past almost decade or so.

Apple already shipped attestation on the web, and we barely noticed (httptoolkit.com)

Apple has deployed a system called Private Access Tokens that allows web servers to verify if a device is legitimate before granting access. This works by having the browser request a signed token from Apple proving the device is approved. While this currently has limited impact due to Safari’s market share, there are concerns...

sin_free_for_00_days,

If a website doesn’t want me to see their shit, then I guess i won’t see their shit. I already have some sites that don’t work because of my aggressive use of lists on my pihole, in addition to the usual browser plugins. If a site doesn’t work now, I just move on. I don’t give a shit about any site enough to put up with this type of bullshit.

sin_free_for_00_days, (edited )

What if it’s your bank’s website?

Use the phone app or, oh I don’t know, fucking go in?

Or email provider?

Change your email provider? Run your own email like people should?

Or literally anything else you actually have to choose and can’t pick? “It’s okay because I don’t think it affects me / I can ignore it” is always a bad reason to allow a bad thing happen.

When the fuck did I say that? I said I’m not going to deal with it. I won’t. I’ll work around it, or change the company I’m using. That is what you need to do to stop this type of shit.

EDIT: Holy crap some people are stupid. Register a domain <whatever>.com. You don’t even need to host a website. Now configure the register to point to your mail server. I’ve done this for decades, across different carriers. And I haven’t lost my email.

Or don’t do any of that and happily bend over and take whatever Apple or Google force on you. You do you.

sin_free_for_00_days,

It’s so fucking easy to do so. Even run it off a rented host.

sin_free_for_00_days,

You can also check out github.com/hnhx/librex I’ve used one of the listed sites several times and it’s been acceptable.

How can I convert my music?

I have a fairly large music collection, which is 9.9 GB in size. It’s mainly made up of MP3 files, with some OGG Vorbis files and a handful of WAV and WMA files. I would like to convert the entire library to AAC (or a better format, if there is one) in order to reduce the size of my collection by a considerable amount....

sin_free_for_00_days,

That would be a pretty basic bash script, but as others have said, really not recommended.

I had ChatGPT write a userscript that lets you block posts using keywords (greasyfork.org)

As the title says, I got tired of hearing about twitter and reddit so provide this userscript a comma separated list of keywords and you will no longer see posts containing those keywords. I’d love to see this functionality built into Lemmy itself, but until then here’s a userscript....

sin_free_for_00_days,

Yeah, I didn’t think any of that would make a difference. It’s just not showing under active scripts when I’m on lemmy.one

sin_free_for_00_days,

This is annoying. Still didn’t work for me. But I uninstalled violentmonkey (not sure why I picked that one years ago, but I hadn’t had any issues before. I installed tampermonkey and it seems to be working for me. Thanks!
